Can -you- tell the difference between "good" vodka and "suck" vodka?

Drink it like a man! All this BS about "smooth"... that's so not the point of Vodka. Throw back a few shots and it won't matter anymore. Or throw some in a some strong pink grapefruit juice and you will have to make the drink very strong to even notice the Vodka.

Straight vodka makes me want to yak, so I guess the answer is no. If you mix it with something else, who cares if it's crappy vodka? 😀

Absolut is ok if you're on a budget, but definitely not the best.

If you are shopping in the price range that Absolut (crap) sits in, just get yourself some Skyy.. same price range, much smoother. Skyy Citrus is very good to mix.

Finlandia consistently wins blind tastes tests. So yes, of course you can tell the differences.

From -http://www.vodkaphiles.com/taste99.cfm

MONTPELIER, VT (July 26, 1999) ? Russian Life magazine announced here today the results of its 2nd Annual International Vodka Taste Off, held in Northfield, Vermont on July 24.

Some 125 Russophiles/Vodkaphiles from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey took part in what was hailed as the world?s largest ever blind taste-test of international vodkas. Included in the test were 16 vodkas from nine countries ? from lesser-known Russian vodkas to top name brands like Stolichnaya and Absolut. Each vodka was taste-tested and evaluated (on a 1-5 rating scale) by over 35 persons.

The results showed up real differences in the many vodkas on the market, contradicting the US Bureau of Tobacco and Firearm?s definition of vodka as "neutral spirits without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color."

In the end, Finnish produced Finlandia vodka garnered the highest average rating. Russia?s Cristall and England?s Tanqueray Sterling tied for second, and France?s Grey Goose came in third (see rankings). Last year?s winner, Holland?s Ketel One, placed 5th this year.

The Taste-Off was sponsored by Russian Life magazine, a 43-year-old magazine of Russian culture, history, travel and life, and The Russian School at Norwich University, in Northfield, Vermont.

Anyone's opinion that doesn't involve drinking vodka straight or on the rocks is worthless and yes, there is a difference between vodkas.

I used to drink Absolut but have drank Kettle One for a while. Recently someone turned me on to Grey Goose which is smoother but I think I prefer Kettle One overall. It's got a good Vodka taste to it, Goose has no taste unless you add a lot and then it's too strong.

Anyone want to list their favorite Vodka drinks? I like cranberry juice and vodka but the trendy Red Bull and vodka is a good deal for me most of the time.

i have to agree with ketel one. i've switched over and haven't looked back since. 🙂

A friend of mine had a saying back in college... TAAKA is Russian for bad. That is some of the most messed up vodka you will ever find.
