Can you survive a zombie apocalypse?

This is not a repost. I am not talking about whether it is better to hole yourself up in a walmart or find and island or mountain top. This is not about whether an ak-47 is preferable to a sword. We are all adults here. I think most of the ATOT community will be around following that day. I am talking about the emotional impact.

Can you shoot your mom or girlfriend in the head? I have seen it over and over. Even the strongest survivor has a soft spot for a loved one. Dawn of the Dead (remake version). That ER doctor had a baby that was born a zombie... but he loved it... and it ended up causing a few deaths.

Would you hold out the hope that maybe your girlfriend might de-zombify and keep her around? Because she will bite you the first chance she gets. For some reason people think they can reason with the now zombified loved ones. Sure if it was viral outbreak that caused everyone to turn into zombies... then maybe. But if it is because hell filled up.. it will be a long wait. I have seen it happen again and again. Everyone thinks that zombie mom is gonna give you a hug and everything will be all right. Nope, she is aiming for your neck.

So you have your walmart secure. You have plenty of food and ammo, dvds, generators, etc. But your mom has her zombie face pushed up against the front door.

Think about it.

I have considered these things. From watching movies like Invasion, Threshold and plenty of zombie movies, I think I have arrived at a satisfactory conclusion.

I would be unable to execute my loved ones if there was any chance for a cure. However, I would secure them in a facility where they could do no harm and hold them in hope for a cure.

If there was no hope for a cure or if there was no way to safely contain them, then I suppose I would have to do what needs to be done.

All I have is a sword.

And I could shoot anyone, provided I truly knew that he/she was dead (or undead, as the case may be).

It completely depends on the situation. If its a back-from-the-dead type of zombie then its pretty clear cut its a zombie and not your loved one, kill them.

If its a madness/disease type infection, then there's potentially hope for a cure, then maybe you could risk trying to lock them up.

The only truly hard part regardless of the situation would be a loved one getting infected and then having to make a decision on what to do before they turned.

Too much thought was put into this, maybe it's time to go outside...

Food would be my biggest downfall. I have ammo and could shoot anything. I couldn't eat forever though.

Survive for how long? On my current supplies, I can probably survive for a few months if I only share provisions with my wife. Longer if I meet up with some of my more "survival" or firearm oriented friends and form a stockade somewhere.

Is the zombie'ism airborne? IF so, even if I kill the zombies, I'm probably screwed pretty quickly.
