Can you sit on the roof of a car?

Can the roof support the weight of an average person, like 150 lbs? And what if it has a sunroof as well? Also can the hood and trunk support it?

I used to climb on the roof of my mom/dad's cars when I was like 10 (~80lbs)

They are supposed to support the weight of the car if it flips, so it should be fine althought i woulndt do it.

lol ok well obviously the roof metal itself would get crushed, but the frame would support the weight without the structure collapsing. I just mean would it do any damage to anything on top at all?

Back when CB radio was hip and computers were only found in full service banks - I remember something that was truly funny.

It was the fourth of July and we arrived late to see fireworks so everyone was sitting on top of their cars and such. Keep in mind cars then (30 years ago) were definitely not built like sardine cans of today. Anyway, I remember these two people sitting on the roof of their pickup truck with a magnet mounted CB antenna in between. The roof didn't hold up to the weight and caved in so they jumped off and (these were both women lol) one gets inside with their fist and starts pounding at the ceiling. Well the dent pops back out and launches the CB antenna (now more appropriately called an aerial!) like a fvcking missile except it doesn't get too far due to the coax attached and does a quick about face and smacks the other woman real hard. Speaking of real hard, that was exactly what it was to NOT to laugh. These were tom boy girls and probably capable of throwing my ass into the river. :Q

Sit on a new car? Dunno I wouldn't try that. People do stupid things though. Most modern cars have such a sloping hood that it would be difficult at best. I'm sure you could find a crown vic with a long nearly horizontal hood the size of a kitchen table that could be used as a seat even while the car is being driven. Go down 55th street sitting there holding a steering wheel like you're driving too.

Sure, but for safety reasons we usually install some bolts where you can't see them and attach those to a jerk harness (that's a lot like a climbing harness). Then you can do all the driving and such that you want and you do a quick cut-away to a closeup of the driver slamming on the breaks or turning the steering wheel, and then cut back to an entirely different take where the jerk harness is connected to a pulley or other point off the car. Last time we did this (a month or so ago), we did the two different shots about two weeks apart.

I like it, but it's not all getting thrown off moving cars, having a pipe thrust through your chest, jumping off buildings, and getting set on fire. Today it's boring stuff like authoring screener DVDs of "War of the Planets" (there's no war and there's only one planet, but you can't argue with the marketing types over this kind of thing) and promotional materials for the true story of Mike the Headless Chicken.

But I can always get set on fire another day.
