Can you setup Java SDK as your JRE?

The Java SDK is perfectly capable of running Java programs. There is even a pure JRE in the JRE subdirectory where the SDK is installed. So why does the SDK installer also installs another copy of JRE in Program Files? Is there a way to set it up to use the SDK as the JRE?

That is what has me dumbfounded. The SDK has a subjected copy of JRE in the SDK folder, but Sun installs yet another _independent_ copy of JRE in your program files folder.
