Can you run 2 burners? Edit: Yes you can

I am really embarrased to even ask this one but I'm gonna give it a try.

OK, I had a HP burner(stillworks) and then I got an Iomega (Plextor) new. I don't have
a CD ROM.

Can I keep both burners in my system in case I want to burn from CD?

If so, how can I set up my master/slave situation? Jumper situation?

Jeff

EDIT: Got it working, haven't tried burning yet though

Jeffwo, of course you can have two burner in your system, but if memory serves me right, you will not be able to burn to both at the same time. As for master/slave, make the faster drive your master and the slower drive you slave drive. Hope this helps 🙂

Yea, you can have 2 burners. You can burn both at the same time too. With only 2 IDE paths though, better prepare for some underrun. If you had raid though, then that'll be a different story.

EDIT: Wait, in case you want to burn from CD? You only need the burner and a regular old cd-rom for that. Its always better to have the to and from drives on different IDE's, but that'll mean putting a cd-rom with a Harddrive. Some people think thats bad. I have my TDK burner and Liteon DVD on the same IDE and burn on the fly with no problems. 12x.

I just thought I would comment about having the burner on the same IDE channel as the harddrive.

I have a DVD drive on the primary channel as slave with my main harddrive. I also have my burner connected as master to the secondary channel with may second harddrive as a slave.

I haven't had any problems with this setup.
