Can you RMA a OEM drive ?

I bought a IBM 75gxp 30.7gb drive on-line a few months ago and now it's starting to make noise, like a real lite clicking noise all the time. The drive was an OEM drive, will IBM still RMA it ?
 
Depending usually OEM hardware only have a 1 year depeneding on the hardware and possiable as little as 30 days. But I could be wrong. I know OEM CPU's have 1 year compared to retail is 3 year I believe.
 
Yes, (almost) all OEM items will come with some sort of warranty, especially against manufacturing defects. OEM warranties are usually shorter than that warranty on retail items though (1 year vs. 3 year for example).
 
I bought my IBM ULtrastar OEM and it has the same 5 year warranty as the retail. I know because I had to replace it and talked to the dude.

Yes, OEM IBM hard drives have a 5 year warranty.

I can't seem to find it on AMD's warranty page but it was there fairly recently. According to AMD, OEM CPU's have a 1 year warranty if the reseller purchased the chip from an authorized distributor. (TechData, Merisel, etc.) If the reseller did not purchase the chip from an authorized distributor or they are giving you less than a 1 year warranty, the source of the chip should be 'suspect.'

Edit: Well, looking at AMD's page they now state there is no warranty at all on non-boxed processors. Wonder when they changed it?

 
Ya, it all depends on the warranty. You did look at the warranty info before you bought the drive right? That's an important thing to do. If you have to buy a new drive I recommend not buy another 75 gxp...they've been plauged with problems. I've got a 60 gxp, and no problems yet, but my friend's was having problems...so I'm hoping mine doesn't...
 
Most HD manufacturers have on their web sites, a place where you enter the serial number, and it &quot;determines&quot; the warranty from it. From that I discovered that the WD800BB that I had so many problems with and had to return, actually had a 3 year warranty with WD, rather than the 1 year warranty with the store that the store told me about.

Likewise for Maxtor.
