can you really avoid death?

Nocturnal

like driving carefully going the speed limit, could you really avoid death or serious injury?

freak accidents are horrible and scary, arent they?

🙁

If you are paranoid about getting into any sort of accident and scared to even walk out the door, I'd say you already are dead.

Yup, there was this guy who lived his whole life clean of tobacco, clean of alcohol, clean of drugs. One day he crossed the street and was run over by a heroin addict, smokin a cigarette, driving a beer truck. Go figure! 🙁

Since nobody can predict the future, I think all you can do is decide which long-term death-contributing factors you're willing to avoid (drinking, smoking, etc) and work them into your lifestyle.

You can't plan for the unknown -- you need to deal with the variables that you have control over and hope that the ones you don't do not screw you up too badly.

If you're really worried, buying insurance helps some people ("well, if I get hit by a bus driven by a beer-guzzling heroin addict, at least my family will be taken care of")

If you could live for a million years, you would still be dead. Immortality-true immortality- is one of the few things I put in the absolutely impossible column. No technical wizadry will allow you to continue forever. So, since you are going to die -and chances are sooner than later, in the big picture sort of way- might as well take a FEW risks. Gonna be all the same to you in 300 years. Go out and have some fun, and live each day as your last, because one of those days you will be right.

There are a lot of times people wish they were dead, but dont really want to die. But since it is latently implanted in the back of their minds, they might inadvertantly expose themselves to "fate".

:Q

No you can't. Even if you ate a perfect diet and exercised perfectly and lived in a bomb shelter you'd still possibly die from something like cancer.

Reasonable measures should be taken but you could die at any time.

I think there is death, which can't be too bad since I did it for billions of years before I was born, and there is the fear of death which arises because we can think. So it is thought which is the enemy and thought is fear. The question is, then, is it possible to end thought. Is it possible to see, to observe, to be present in such a way that thought cannot enter? What is the mind that is in a state of pure observation? Does such a mind cease to be aware of itself and become what it observes? When the light that fills the universe has it's source in your own eye what else is there but joy.

Depends on your definition of "avoid".

Technially you could "avoid" death by not riding a motorcycle, driving a car with ***** saftey ratings, not participating in dangerous leisure activities like freestyle mountain climbing, base jumping, swiming with great white sharks, staying out of potentially hazardous locales such as Gary, IN, Southern Chicago, East Saint Louis, ect.

The point is, you can reduces your chances of probable reasons of death, but you never eliminate all of them. In fact, you could be concentrating so much on the imposibles, you may be neglecting the probables.

Death is a condition of life. You can avoid it only by avoiding living. The two are not seperate things but part of one whole.
