Can You Partition Your C: Drive With WinXP Pro When It's 50% Full?

I am going to do another reformat on my machine since there were so many botched software installs and glitches the last time around, but I don't want to have to dump all the CD and movie rips I have made to my HD. Can I use WinXP and partition my C: drive when it's about half full, so I can just dump everything to the partition?

I do have other drives, but they are mainly for archival storage and are pretty much maxxed out.
 
why not just install xp pro on the drive, and when you get to the part about partions DO NOT DELETE the partition, leave it the way it is, it will tell you it cant install on a partition with an OS on it already, and if you continue through it will tell you and let you delete just the windows directory. this will leave everything on the hard drive, it will just delete the windows directory from that partition, install, and when your finallly in windows, access the C drive/documents and settings/ the user name with all of your data in it, then copy what you need to the current user account. you will of course need to reinstall all programs, drivers, updates after windows is reinstalled.
 
Yep, you need to install Windows over the old copy. It's called smth like Repair Installation or so.
If you still want to partition, you do have this opportunity - just use any partition manager like Disk Director which I use for ex.
