Can you overclock a Leadtek without WinFox?

I have a Leadtek WinFast A400 LE TDH (6800 LE) which I overclock using Leadtek's WinFox program. It's bundled with oodles of stuff I'm never going to use apart from its overclocking utility.

I've tried NVIDIA CoolBits and RivaTuner, but when overclocking, or pressing Test after setting a speed, they both say that this setting can't be done and try a different clock speed - even if I go up or down by 1 MHz!

ONLY WinFox works and I hate the way it eats up resources while running!

Have Leadtek locked their cards so only their software can overclock it? Any ideas on how I can get CoolBits to accept an overclock?

i have a leadtek 6800 that i overclock fine with coolbits. try uninstalling winfox. maybe winfox itself is locking up coolbits. i never installed winfox in the first place.

Coolbits was the first thing I used to overclock with since I didn't want to use Leadtek's own. And it didn't work. Then I thought that they only allow their own software. I then installed WinFox and it allowed overclocking :disgust:

Surely they can't hardware-lock the overclocking so only WinFox can get in can they?

Coolbits should work fine as should nV tweek. Perhaps you are confused as to how to use them?

I've been overclocking cards with CoolBits for ages. It's just this card that doesn't let me :( How can Leadtek stop Coolbits?? Like you say it's NVIDIA's chip that needs to be overclocked so there's no way they can lock it???!

This is really weird! I'll try NV Tweak...

I used NVTweak and I let it add its Coolbits into the Properties. This time it worked! :D Must have been the Coolbits registry I was using that was wrong or something?

At least I can save some resources now :) Thanks!

It's happening again!

I uninstalled WinFox after CoolBits finally started accepting my overclocks. Now that WinFox is uninstalled, I cannot change my overclocks in CoolBits anymore. It's now not on its default clock speed, but the one I overclocked to before uninstalling WinFox.

If I go up or down a notch in CoolBits and press Test Settings, it does the progress bar and then says it cannot keep the new settings and that I should try lower speeds - no matter where I move it!

Why does only WinFox allow my card to overclock?!

Pretty weird. What version of the NVidia driver our you using? Maybe try a different version. Maybe re-installing NVTweak will get it working... You can always try RivaTuner.

I would uninstall all NVidia drivers, run one of the Registry cleaning program for NVidia drivers, and re0install the latest driver and coolbits.

Edit- Oops - you already tried Rivatuner.

I am just using CoolBits, and like I said, it doesn't let me overclock. I go up OR down by any amount - even 1 MHz - and it says it can't apply those settings, try a lower value.

Only WinFox overclocks my card. Why?

Thanks for your reply, but I've already unlocked my card to 12 pipelines and 6 vertex shaders. And then I wanted to overclock it too. So I went to CoolBits and overclcoked like you normally overclock a card, but it didn't let me.

Then I installed WinFox and it let me overclock it. Now with WinFox uninstalled, it won't overclock again!

I just cannot believe that Leadtek could lock this card from overclocking without WinFox!

I just want to use CoolBits because WinFox eats-up too much RAM and is an extra process, but what stops CoolBits from overclocking?

EDIT: I think I found something. In Device Manager, right at the bottom is something called WinFox Control I/O Driver. What is it for? Maybe disabling it will allow me to overclock with CoolBits? Does anyone know what its for?

I uninstalled the WinFox Control I/O Driver from Device Manager, and it STILL will not let me overclock with anything other than WinFox! :| How can they do this?!

All my previous GPUs would OC with anything, and this is the first time I had to buy a Leadtek - only because it was the cheapest available - I normally buy MSI. I hate WinFox!

Same sort of problem for me when trying to OC my Leadtek 6600GT. However I never used WinFox to OC. It won't except any clocks I give it with RivaTuner, but when I go into the drivers and have it "choose optimal settings", it excepts those fine.

At least I'm not alone anymore. But when I do Optimal Settings, it puts my refresh rate as 60 Hz but keeps the speeds at default. :frown: I can't OC at all without WinFox!

It puts my frefresh rate at 60 as well, but then I just reset the refresh rate and apply, it still holds the OC settings.

Have you ever installed WinFox before? Like just to test it?
