I'm guessing dell has a proprietary bios that doesn't let you OC these desktops.

the one Im looking at buying has an E7400, can you overclock it in bios, or is there a bsel mod or something?

thanks.

I think you can BSEL mod the E7400 from 1066 fsb to 1333 fsb. That's how I've modded a Studio 540 with Q6600 from 2.4GHz to 3.0GHz before. I've also managed to BSEL mod a E5200 from 2.5GHz to 3.33GHz in an Inspiron 518. But if it isn't stable you're going to have to mess with the vcore, and the only way you can do that is by "connecting the dots" (basically grounding) or using insulating tape to block off certain "dots". It's not fun but very worthwhile if you want to increase the Dell's performance.

BSEL mod will bring an E7400 to 3.5GHz. Can work, but likely it will need a hair more voltage. I think VRZone had some voltage mod help pages. If you can get a slower CPU like the E7300/E7200 then your chances are better.
