Can you move the handle on the sx1030/1040?

While I am awaiting my 1040 I was pondering the idea of removing the handle on the side panel. I feel pretty confident it can be removed in its entirety but has anyone ever tried to relocate it?

You mean move it another part of the side panel? I guess it could be done but you'd have to cut another hole for it. Why would you want to move it?

My plans are to mod the case with a window. I have seen others contour around the handle and although I think that looks pretty good, I'd rather have a rectangular window. So, since the handle covers up part of the area which I would like to view, I want to move it up to the top of the side panel and have the window below it. Just a thought.
I have just never seen it before and wondered if anyone had removed/moved it.

The handle punches through the metal. If you want to put a window where the handle is, then you will have to cut up to where the handle-hole is. It's approx. 0.5" from the edge. There are some additional tab and lock holes that you will want to duplicate at the new location, but other than that it looks like it should work. There is nothing on the inside that lines up with the handle at that location, so that's not an issue. The only thing is that the latch does need to be on that edge somewhere. You can move it up or down and have it still work, but not to another edge on the door.

If you remove the handle entirely, the door might tend to fall off. It could be held in place with thumbscrews though.
