Can you mix memory?

I have 1 gig od HyperX pc3200 in my machine now .... if I want to add more RAM do I need to get more of the same of just any pc3200?
 
ok any suggestion on best bang for the buck on a 2 gig memery kit.

System is a 3500+ winnie
6800gt
74gb raptor
ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo

I figure I need more ram to run BF2 better. I get game lag for a split second alot.

If you're not ocing, just get g.skill pc3200 ram and buy 2 of those 1 GB sticks. Otherwise, if you want a bit, get the pc4000 version.

Why is this? I have a gig of PC3200 and I just ordered another gig of PC3200 (different brand). If I install the 2nd gig, all four slots will be occupied. Will this mean an automatic decrease of memory speed (downstepped to ddr333)? If so, why does this happen?
