Can you make Games part of Video?

I think it would make more sense to have Games in the Video forum. We all talk about video cards, and 95 percent of us are gamers, so we talk about how it performs in games and stuff like that. All we talk about is games and video cards.

I saw some, but Applications and then Programming and then you have Games. It doesn't go together.

Games is an extreme compared to Programming.

Gaming questions I think are better dealt with in the Video section, where people play video games with their cards and talk about graphics in a game, problems and things like that. It makes more sense.

I don't even go there for my video game questions. It would be better answered in the Video section.

How is applications not an extreme then when compared to programming? After all, games are an application too. It takes programmers to create the code and others to develop the game. Games aren't just limited to pc games - XBox, PS2, and other questions are in there as well. (Although more often than not, those are posted in OT)

Another reason why it should be in Video is because they aren't just limited to PC. Then it becomes an untouchable app. that has nothing to do with programming. It's closed, locked. All I'm sayin is the Video cards are used to play games and games would be a great company in Video.

Then if there are questions, the video forum knows about the card types in the consoles.

XBOX - Nvidia
Gamecube - ATI
Dreamcast - NEC

PS2 - Cheap Ass GS (Graphics Synthesizer)

I absolutley agree with VIAN here. The Video forum as it is is overwhelmingly about gaming anyway, just on the hardware side of it as of now. Pretty much all of the most active gamers on the forum spend most of their time in Video and gaming is the reason why the Video forum is able to generate almost all of the traffic it does.

Seems sensible to me to put Video, Games, Graphics and Displays into a single forum.

That would actually make the most sense. The biggest enthusiasts for all of those categories are all in the Vid forum already.

but then we might have confused posters asking questions about old dos games in the video section, which would be wierd....

no because, since all gamers would go there then they might know, if they don't then they might need to go to either software or OS forums to solve it.

Gamers more than anybody will remember trying to get there games running in DOS. Autoexec.bat and Config.sys editing was a staple of any DOS gamer. I would assume the same for Emulation and MAME as well, its the gamers that are into this stuff.

I certainly agree with this sentiment. Not a knock on anyone but if I were looking for help with an old DOS based game the first people I would think of are the older gamers that are into the tech side- and here those type all hang out in Video already.

As it stands now the proper forum to post gaming in is under software (it even lists games in the forum title). I think if a thread is about game(s) but does not have any kind of video card mentioned in it then it should go into software.

Like the "shiny water effects" thread there now - it has nothing at all to do with video cards, it's simply comparing games to other games. Other topics like "list your favourite game" and "list all the best games since 1996" also squarely belong in Software since they have absolutely nothing to do with video at all.

The video forum is turning into another GH forum because absolutely everything is being posted there and thus the amount of noise is increasing.
