I know, I know, I should have just PM'ed Monel, but I figured I'd throw this out into the general populace. 
I'm thinking you could hose clamp some sort of igniter on the end of the barrel so that the fluid would ignite as it passed over it while leaving the nozzle. That's sort of the way a real flamethrower works, except it has a tank of compressed stuff to mix with the fuel to make it go.
