Can you make a flamethrower out of a Super Soaker?

I know, I know, I should have just PM'ed Monel, but I figured I'd throw this out into the general populace.

I'm thinking you could hose clamp some sort of igniter on the end of the barrel so that the fluid would ignite as it passed over it while leaving the nozzle. That's sort of the way a real flamethrower works, except it has a tank of compressed stuff to mix with the fuel to make it go.

Look into using a peice of brass/copper/aluminum or other metal tube for the nozzle, of a relatively decent lenght too. It will keep the plastic tip from melting down.

Hmm...interesting idea. It would be best to try this with a very small gun, given that the fire might run back into the hold of gas/flammable fluid and you'll lose less fingers/arms this way.

Considering that most combustible fluids would probably dissolve the plastic and that the heat from the flame would most certainly melt the palstic, if not ignite the whole thing into an X-ManKabob.........my vote is NO!!!!!!!!!

i read instructions how to do it once, but that was like 4 years ago. you do have to make some tweaks to keep your gun from breaking down somehow... the details escape me.

Not true...hell, you could fill it up with WD-40 and it would be perfect.

I've always wanted to do this. Be sure to keep plenty of pressure in the fuel chamber....wouldn't want the flame traveling up into that. I don't know how long the tip would last before melting shut.

the ignition would take place 2-3 inches out of the nozzle, how would that melt the plastic?

It works, we did it years and years ago. You have to cut off the nozzle (riot blast) and replace the plastic tube cover with metal pipe. We used a butane torch for the igniter and just filled the gun with gas. However, this was on an original super soaker 50 IIRC, and the lack of constant pressure posed somewhat of a danger because when it dropped it wanted to suck the flame back in the gun. I just modified it, I was never the guy shooting the thing. Those new CPS soakers might work better.

Make sure the place where the liquid goes NEVER comes in contact with the air in the tank. If that happened, flame would travel up the tube and ignite the fumes, causing an explosion of some degree.

Either cut off the very end of the orange nozzle or drill it out so as to make a wider stream that releases the pressure faster and lets out more fuel. Seems to mix it with the air a little better this way too, not as easy to suck back into the gun when pressure is low. The new super soakers have such big streams this isn't really an issue, but when I did it we only had the originals. I'd like to see a CPS 2000 flame thrower.

Actually, we ended up melting the original nozzle anyway so we made a makeshift metal one when we replaced the barrel. Gun still ended up failing because the pressure seals failed (this was an SS 100) and it wouldn't quite shut off so my buddy hucked it and it caught fire and died. Boom.

the metel pipe is genius do this jus dont get gasoline all over like i did the firs time cause i set my legs on fire and burned my crotch oww. Pretty cool though if you use wd40 cuse it burns really hot fast and sest everethin on fire
