Once a year I have to visit my Grandparents a couple of states away for 3 weeks. My parents don't let me take my desktop, or my laptop. The first few days are painful, but after a while ya kinda get over it. After I get back home, I'm afriad to touch my PC for a couple of days, just in case I get hooked on it again. There is more to life than UT and Q3A.

POLL: Why do you NEED your computer? What do you do with it?

Sounds like Stefan, got some :D

I could spend about a weekend away from my PC otherwise I worry that I missed out on the BIGGEST DEAL! If it weren't for my deal addiction I could go with using a PC about 5 hours a week which is LIGHT.

When I go on holiday say for a fortnight I can't use the mouse when I get back. No control at all - really odd.

ahh man... I don't know if I could stay live without my computer here at home especially when I work with 1100 at school. :( That would suck but it would give me time for my PS2, school, and more time to stay at work.

Back when my 400MHZ computer was top of the line, I could not part with my computer. Well, one day I decided to reformat the puter. My win95 turned out to bad, so I couldn't do anything until I got another disc...a couple weeks rolled around, and I resorted to my 50MHZ computer...boy was that hell.

I've been 3 weeks without my gaming puter...and two weeks without a computer...I don't think I could go a month.

Interesting idea. Over the summer I suppose it's quite possible (other than the fact that I come back from college to a job working on my old High School's network, Mac, but well setup up despite this and nothing below a G3-266 in the HS). Here in college, no way in hell. It's the only way I keep in touch with my old friends all of whom are 250+ miles away. Right now it's hell having to use the Campus labs while I wait for my ThinkPad (Note to IBM: Ship the *$#% A Series!). I imagine the website could go a month neglected, but that month would have to be something really good, like going down old Route 66 on my motorcycle or wandering around the British Isles. Just my two cents.

Come'on guys... it's Halloween! He's just trying to scare us with horror stories.

He proly doesn't have a life, no kids around to scare on Tuesday, and we represent 95% of his life. Boy, I'm jealous!

Of course he's not gonna do it. People that say they will kill themselves never do it.

At most he's just testing the waters to see if by faking it he would get more answers to his posts. Yeah.. I can already see it, "Selfless chap enduring an eternity without his companion, come in and read his posts!"

That's it. If it is not Halloween it's advertisement. The only doubt is about which one is scarier.

WW

PS. My appologies to those sensitive to the subject above.

Hehe! Maybe we could declare ourselves an oppressed/underpriviledged group and get special government funding to 'treat' our addictions? :)

I might be able to if I had an Internet Appliance and a Game Console.

But I don't have an Internet Appliance and I only play old skool game console games through computer emulation.

But I have 4 computers and a partial 5th, so if one goes down, I can use another :p

I don't think I could. I have trouble being away from my system for a day sometimes. I have all my info on my system and use it for all kinds of stuff so it would be hard. I have 2 backup systems also in case my main one ever goes all the way down and a Laptop I can take with me if I am gone the whole day.

I mean i could use labs to check email and print out junk and news site, probably only really need to use it like half an hour a day on a NEED basis

I could live without it. I would probably find something to do. I use to go throught that every year, when I would go home for christmas. I would be stuck with my old p233mmx that my parents use.

Do you guys realize how much of a bunch of dorks we are? Other people go around without even knowing what a megabyte is. I could go for about a month or so in the summer when I don't need my comp for school. Heck, I got my first computer (besides a 4/86) last December. I haven't even touched a game in like months and months. But the one thing that would kill me would be the lack of music because my stereo system is my computer.

Anyone remember that short story that was called "The Bet", it was about these two guys that bet a million dollars that a man could not last a year in a jail cell in solitude without any electronics!
