They're cool. Pick one up and he'll roll into a ball trying to protect himself. It was one of the few bugs that most kids aren't scared of.

It certainly does look like a pillbug now that I've been looking. I'm starting to get some of these in my garage, and they are crawling around on the walls and ceiling. Any recommendations on removal and prevention? Now that I think I know what they are, I can of course go research this for myself, but if anyone has experience in dispatching these monsters, I'd appreciate it.

I believe you are mistaken. A potato bug is also known as a Jerusalem cricket. pics. And they look like the spawn of Satan.

I use to put those in water when I was a little kid. They fall to the bottom and then walk around. Not sure if they were able to trap air in their shell or if they were drowning to death.

Get you some Woodlouse Spiders. They are ugly and kind of scary looking, but they eat them and are basically harmless to humans.

I found this happy fellow living in some brush behind my house last year, and called upon ATOT to tell me what it was. Makes sense, since I also found a shit ton of pill bugs in the same general area as this guy.
