Can you hide taskbar icons in XP?

I was wondering if there was a way to hide progam icons in XP?

Say, for example, that I wanted to hide an Internet Explorer or Agent program's icon on my taskbar while at work so my boss wouldn't see it. If I just minimize it, the stupid taskbar button with the icon is still visible, giving me away. How do I hide the stupid button with the icon?

Arrgh!

Help!

Would setting the taskbar to auto-hide help? This does not hide the icon itself, but if the whole taskbar isnt visible........... gl

Yes I could do that, but I'd rather just hide the one icon if possible. Wouldn't it look funny if I suddenly started keeping my taskbar hidden?

Hmm.... thanks for the idea though.

party pooper!

Seriously, though, I'm not necessarily doing anything bad (i.e. not working or downloading kiddie porn). I put in my hours and I don't get paid by the hour. I pay my dues. I just want to take advantage of all that bandwidth without getting in trouble for no good reason.

Right click on Task Bar -- Properties -- Taskbar -- check the "hide inactive icons" -- you can use cutomize -- under behavior can change specific ones.

I know I'm not helping much, but this only helps with system tray icons, not applications in the taskbar. Sorry... 🙁

Thanks, passign!

That's an excellent little app.

For anybody who's curious, here's the procedure.

Once you download and extract it, put a shortcut in documents and settings/user you want/start menu/programs/startup

and under properties for the shorcut, type "-hideself on" after PowerMenu.exe (w/o the quotes).

Now, you can minimize buttons to the system tray via a right mouse click. Once minimized to the tray, you can right-click on the taskbar, properties, customize, then select the icon you want to "always hide" and voila, the secret program runs in the hidden area of the systray. Totally hidden, but very easy to get to.

Slick!!

A couple of days late, but a thanks to passign is due. That looks like a great program, that I'll definitely check out. I'll be sure to spread the word... 🙂
