Can you hear a song for it's beauty without understanding the language?

The funny thing here is that as I read the title the only person I thought of was Ofra Haza.....and that is what I was going to post.

Almost all the time. I have a difficult time understanding speech when there are other sounds present. Most music, if I want to know the lyrics, I need to look them up online (if they're not included with the CD) and read them.
Sarah McLachlan is a good example - I can understand a fair portion of the words, but enough are missing that I don't have a clue what the songs are supposed to be about. But I like her voice, so I continue to listen.

Definitely:

- Dead Can Dance / Lisa Gerrard
- Celtic music in Gaelic
- J-Pop in anime
- Fight Song Of The Brunnen-G (Lexx) 😉

:music: Vaiyo A-Rah, Jerhume Brunnen G :music:

Definitely. Even moreso if the vocals flow with or are an integral part of the music (how many songs can you think of that would sound totally different without the vocals?).

while i can't quite relate to the song the OP postes as i do understand it, there are songs that i like without understanding the language.

time to say goodbye, (non english version)

smashing pumpkins - don't understand most of what billy is singing but still love it

There is some Mexican music I enjoy when I'm having dinner in a Mexican restaurant, and /me no habla mucho, but inspite of the lady's nice voice in the OP's first post...if I had to listen to that very much, well, I'll leave it at I don't find the music to be pleasant to listen to.

I definitely can appreciate music without understanding the words. In fact, I don't even pay attention to words all that frequently until I've listened to the song a few times anyway. If the music isn't good, I couldn't give half a damn what the lyrics are. That's why I can't stand Bob Dylan (not trying to start an argument on Dylan).

Sure, Rammstein. I don't understand a word of german.

Hell, their music is great even if I don't understand most of the words. They can convey it mostly in the dirty industrial thrasing and the beats. 😎

Are you serious? :Q

I am completely serious. The song Galbi popped into my head too. I like her late 80s pop/dance stuff the most.
