Alright so I have a jailbroken iPhone4, and (can't remember precisely because it's been sitting in a box forever) I think I did a reset on it from the phone, and now when it starts up it just shows the black screen and apple logo. I put it in recovery mode and tried to restore to 6.1.3 via iTunes using Apple's stock IPSW, but got error 3194 (my hosts file doesn't show apple, so no idea why this even happened). Started up TinyUmbrella and started the server, tried to do the restore again and now iTunes just infinitely says "preparing iPhone for restore." Tried this several times, waited 30 mins, nothing. Also tried restoring to iOS7 from iTunes (without loading a custom IPSW), and got the same results. What the heck is going on guys - can we still save this iPhone? :$

Are you running the latest version of iTunes?

Yeah and if that is the latest version of itunes is it 64bit or 32bit. That makes a huge difference when doing this and also have you tried holding the power button and home button in when turning it on its a factory reset within the phone its worth a try.

I am thinking one thing you can do is to visit Apple store, they might be able to solve the problem.

That is a great option for many of us (there are literally over 10 Apple Stores within reasonable driving distance from my house). Unfortunately, for some, this is not an option.

Hopefully, OP is the former rather than the latter.

Back when I still had iOS devices, I remember this happened, and I had to use Tiny Umbrella to force it out of DFU mode.

Make sure to close out TinyUmbrella when restoring to stick firmware. Also make sure you don't have anything lingering in your hosts file. Then make sure you're on the latest version of iTunes and reboot your computer.

Put the phone into recovery or duff mode and connect it. You should be able to restore.

Otherwise I'd suggest an apple store as you're most likely best bet.

Attempt to go into DFU mode and restore from there.
