can you go invisible on AIM?

There is an eye to the top left of your buddy list. Click it and it will shut, indicating you're invisible.

that and 5.5 sucks. they changed the way sounds work.. you have to go out of your way to get it to only make a sound on the first message.

I do this all the time with another screenname. Just use something that allows for multiple screennames, like trillian or gaim. Have the random SN login automatically, but have the real one as the default. Whenever you start trillian or gaim, you'll see everyone on your contact list, but they can't see you. Then, if you want to log on, just log on manually with the real one. It's really easy once you get the hang of it.

Why go invisible? In all my years using IMs, I've never once understood a good reason for invisibility. If you don't want to talk to someone, then don't talk to them!

Maybe they want to talk to only 1 person. Should they block the rest of their buddies so they can talk to that 1 person and keep being invisible to others? That's what this feature is for, to save you from all that hassle  If you don't understand it, you don't have to reply.

If you are invisible, people can still read your profile and an away message, if you happen to have one up. All they have to do is open a window with your name on it and click "Get info."
