Can you get scratches out of an LCD monitor??? Help!

Hi. My son got too close to the monitor when I wasn't paying 100% attention and now there is a small scratch.... Is there ANY way to get it out? My husband is going to be VERY upset if I can't resolve this problem somehow.

I'd love any advice you can give me!

If the screen material has been physically scratched, there isn't a whole lot you can do.

First thing to try might be a soft lint-free cloth and some water. You could try a little rubbing alcohol (or an ammonia-based cleaner like Windex, maybe watered down a bit) to see if it helps, but this can hurt the antiglare coating on some LCD screens. Do NOT use acetone, benzene, or other solvents; they will almost certainly damage the display surface and make it worse.

The good news is that XMas is just around the corner, and new monitors make great presents.

It's me now... not my wife. This scratch is not small... and it's almost dead-center so you'll always be looking at it.

For the sake of my sanity, I sure hope there's some kind of fix.....

I scrimped and saved like a miser for this 19" LCD.... there's no way I can afford another.

Well, see, the way to remove a problem is to find its source and remove it. Therefore, since the LCD is scratched, nuke the LCD.

Other than that... I don't know... did you try rubbing at it?

In any case, it looks like there are products to repair this kind of stuff.

Metal vs. LCD. Your first option was a better one.... For all your "google it" advice, LCD repairing goop seems to be quire rare out there.

isn't the mobile lcds are different than the lcd screen we use???
if you apply a lot of pressure onto the lcd for 2 or 3 mins...wouldn't you damage it??

I've never seen really good results from products like that. If you read the description carefully, what it's actually doing is using some sort of solvent to dissolve and smooth out the surface of your display. This is likely to cause the treated area to look slightly different than the rest of the monitor surface (although it *will* make the scratch less visible), and you can kiss any antiglare coatings goodbye.

I only saw two alternatives:
That, I guess with a dull spot, and companies who said the could put new plastic on. (which probably costs a lot more)

If he hates the scratch, he'll have to try one. Otherwise, an expensive lesson.

i think there is something called 'polishing paste' that is used on glass surfaces etc. if the scratch isnt too deep, that might work.
