My mom got a warning for it in Nebraska.

It appears an overwhelming number of people so far know it is illegal (at least in most locations).

You are avoiding the traffic signals, disrupting the flow of traffic, creating a hazzardous situation (especially since many people do this full speed through the parking lot), and depending on the store owner you may be tresspassing (using their land, slightly degrading their parking lot, and have no intention of actually using the business services.

It's illegal, thanks to a little something called private property. I see tons of people doing it, however, and I've done it once or twice myself.

the official term (at least in UT) is "Avoidance of a traffic control device" which means a stop sign, light, etc.

That's what they call it here too. I think it's illegal everywhere and it seems to be well enforced most places. I've seen a lot of people get nailed for it.

Want to back that up? I was always taught that this was illegal.

I think he means "in Illinois you can get a ticket for it" .... :)

That said, I believe 11 years ago when I took drivers Ed, the course materials somewhere stated that it was against the rules of the road to avoid intersections by cutting through private property.

Now, if you take side streets to avoid busy main streets .... that is legal (obviously)... but not cutting through private property just to skip traffic signals.

You can get a ticket for cutting thru a gas station to avoid a light or traffic.

One woman tried to do this and got a ticket. She cut thru a gas station, looked at the prices for gas, and acted disgusted. The cop caught her act and pulled her over once she was on the road.

I do it all the time at timer stop lights. You know, those great situations where everyone wins. Like, say its 2am and there's no other cars on the road, then the light turns red to let the ghost cars go through while you wait?

I guess in other people's states traffic lights don't do things like that.

So the person who does the timing thinks that you have to stop at every stop light. How does that make them stupid?
