Can you fight a speeding ticket if the officer didn't ask for insurance card?

Was just wondering if I could take it to court and claim that the car wasn't mine or something. LOL. He only asked for my driver's license and then wrote up the ticket.

Nope. If the radar says you're going"X" mph, that's what you get nailed with. Some people have successfully gotten away with lesser charges, like "Waste of energy" violations and so forth, but you're pretty much stuck. Stay off the gas, leadfoot!

No you cant fight it because he did not ask for the insurance card. What would it not being your car have to do with it?

Yup. I can't take a friend's car, speed, get pulled over, then say "not my car, not my fault."

Just show up on the court date and it will be reduced. If you have a clean driving record it might just become a "ghost ticket" that doesn't raise your insurance rates.

That's really reaching.

Did he check the tint on your windows? If not, you'd better bring that up as well.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to contest a ticket, try saying that & the judge would laugh you out of court.

From what I have heard from someone...who I do not remember...but if you send something into the court, saying that you want to take the officer to court, then he must do a bunch of paper work and may just drop it...it's worth a shot because it doesnt cost you anything, but make sure you mail it in and not show up in person, or else someone from the court does the paper work for them

That one actually got me a written warning for 79 in a 60. Also dodged a ticket once telling the officer I hadn't had the vehicle long (it was used), and the speedometer must be off.

I'm really getting sick of idiots coming up with moronic ideas to try and get out of speeding tickets that they very obviously deserved and posting about them on here.

I'm with notfred. If you are caught speeding, be a man (woman) and pay the fine!

my friend actually got off not getting a ticket because the cop asked him if the tires on his car were not the original ones and if they were a different size. my friend said yah, actually they are new and slightly bigger (on a jeep wrangler)

cop didn't give him a ticket but told him to go get his speedometer re-calibrated

I'm against you both then...becuase I think if there is a chance to save money, then go for it...so you might as well get some ideas from people with nothing better to do during the day...

could not believe i did not get a warning as well.. A city cop too.

He quoted me the speed and I thought to myself dayum...was going in the 60's when I saw him and was approaching a 35 mph zone.

I'm tired of police using tickets as a revenue generator instead of law enforcement. I'm either going to use the new tires or that i was suffering from plantar fascitis which occasionally causes muscle cramps...resulting in my foot increasing pressure on the accelerator.

I can present the receipt for the tires as well as a note from my podiatrist

Officers ask for your license and registration for the vehicle no matter whos vehicle it is. They can track the insurance on the car through the registration (if need be). There is no need for them to take you insurance card if they pulled you over.

The ticket will be in you name since you were pulled over and you will be required to pay for it or go to court to fight it. Just don't get another ticket in 12 months. Otherwise you'll have to take a online driving course to clear your points from your record.

If you have a medical condition that prevents you from controlling the speed of your car you shouldn't be driving.

I think you should plead temporary insanity. Go all the way to the Supreme Court if you have to.

Get yourself a white cane with a red tip and some really dark sunglasses.
Explain to the judge that you are blind and could not see the speedometer.

The ticket still applies unless he also wrote you up because your shoelaces were untied and your eyes were crossed.

Can we convert this thread to a poll whether this is one of the lamest questions EVAR?
