Can you exercise unconditional love?

even if the person doesn't reciprocate it. maybe its your gf, bf, children, spouse, or parents.
can you honestly do it?

or is it kinda like...if you don't love me, i won't love you too.

Edit:...i recently told a family member i won't love them if they don't love me back..another family
member said i was wrong to react that way...that it should not be conditional.

sure people talk/fantasize about unselfish/unconditional love...but u think it really exists? i doubt it.

unconditional love as in, if someone you love robs you blind and murders your children, you'd still love them? no.

well, no, no harm done to you, but don't seem they love u either.
obviously u have had some history before, as lvoers, children, parents etc...but
don't seem like they show you any love.

can u still love them regardless?

What you describe isn't unconditional love. By defintion, unconditional love has no conditions. I don't think anyone can really love that way.

i'll always love my family even if they don't love me.

Sometimes we dont get along but what family doesn't fight sometimes?

I know quite a few girls/guys who take a lot of abuse from their significant other, but stay with them anyway.

I generally come to the conclusion that these people are just stupid and/or have mental problems, though.

Generally yes, it is possible.

Typically no, it is not possible.
Especially considering what some so called humans do these days.

I do find it intriguing how dogs have an unconditional love for their owners though...no matter how abused or neglected they may be.

hence man's best friend.

well - i have unconditional love for my family - parents and siblings.

i also have not been able to fall OUT of love with the girl i used to be with. it was a mutual breakup - so we are still friends but i guess that love is only one sided now.

ya jake. dogs dont have love for their owners they have love for their food supply.

I think parent/child is about as close as it comes to unconditional love. Spouses dont come close.
