Can I hook a network cable direclty up to twon network cards, not through a hub or anything. Just jumper the two comps togather, to play a LAN game like UT.

Thanks,

Josh

Crossover cable is twisted in between. I can't explain it, either search the "network" forum or post on it..

In a crossover cable, the wires inside the cable are crossed over from one end to another... they switch. You cannot use a normal Cat5 cable, in which the wires are not crossed over, as they are designed for connecting computers to hubs and switches, not directly from pc to pc.

The wiring in one of the CAT5 connectors has been reversed. Pin1 = Pin8 , Pin7 = Pin2. You can buy these cables at most computer stores, such as CompUSA or possibly Fry's. I don't have a Fry's from around here, but they seem to stock quite a bit of stuff.
