Can you do a pull up? or more than 1?

The "can you do a push up" thread got me curious. Can you do a pull up, or more than one from a totally hanging position (overhand or underhand grip is allowed)? I'm now knocking anyone who can't; I can do a number of pull ups but don't ask me to run any distance or I'll pass out.

I can do LOTS of chin ups

Not as many pull ups

Oh...hmm, I didn't realize that actually, maybe I should have made that distinction. I guess chin ups uses more biceps and pull up uses more back, although both are excellent upper body exercises if you can do enough to benefit. Or I'll call this the pull up thread and someone else can make the chin up one....heh

I haven't tried pullups in years but I ocassionally throw chin ups in my back workout and got 12 last time a couple of weeks ago.

So, what if you can do 7? According to your poll I have two choices. Since I don't want to look like I belong in the 1-7 group of wussies, I chose the 7-15 group. 😀😉

LOL....I just realized that. If you can do exactly 7 or 15 then it is your choice of which group you want to belong to. And if you can do more than 15 that's pretty good.

HEHE.....69 posts for me

I'm sure I could do about 15 no prob. They aren't terribly difficult to do. What about dips? Most people can't do those. 😀

Dips work a totally different set of muscles

And what's your definition of pull/chin up? Not the overhand/underhand crap. After every rep, do you go completely all the way down? And how far up do you go?

My def. is going completely down, up = chin over the bar. I can do about 11 of those

untill I was ten or so, I could not do any at all

it sounds weird, but it was not that I lacked the strenght, it is just I did not know how to

my uncle "taught" me, and I immediately was able to do eight or so, - so, for some people, it might not be the lack of strenght, but, perhaps, they just "don't know how to"

Uh, you hang, and then pull, what's to know?

I define "real" push ups, - the only kind that I do, - as the ones when I put my hands as wide as possible (much wider than the shoulder lenght), start from the very los point, and do them slowly, no rocking, no bouncing

yeah, I know it sounds strange, but that's how it was

I do the same thing, although I have trouble keeping my lower body from rocking sometimes. (Lately I've found arching my back where my lower body is in front of me helps)

I can do about 25 pull-ups and maybe 20 chin ups.. For some reason, my tricep is a lot bigger than my bicep.. Like, my bicep doesn't look very muscular, but my tricep is massive.

Perhaps I should do some more chin ups..

I am not sure how many I can do but I know that I can do at least 10 or so for reps. Chin ups are a lot easier to do. As far as dips, I love to do those especialy at the end of a hard workout on the arms.
