you can, but I wouldn't recommend it.

SO much can go wrong.

Lets say you deposit $500.
They can claim you deposited $400

contrary to popular belief, the security at "deposit rooms" is extremely high.

Chances are this is never gonna happen

Yes you "can," but in my experience, it's likely to get stolen. It's a pain, because I make tips, but after one definite theft of $20 out of $140, and one other questionable "situation," I always go to a teller now.

EDIT: The amount was $20 from $140, not $160.

Yes, but at the ATM at the place where I work have NO deposit envelopes (there's a deposit "slot"). I have to drive to the nearest bank to do the deposit.

Yes you CAN deposit cash in an ATM but I would NOT recommend it.

I only deposit checks in ATM's, for cash transactions I always use the teller window.

Agreed. Too much could go wrong with cash.

Yes, but it could take as long as 48 hours for the money to clear. Plus, as RossMAN said, far too much can go wrong to trust 'em.

I guess it's time to do the 'ol FTSearch... someone here posted a while back about doing just that and having the problem claimed above. I don't know if it was ever corrected, but, seemed like they lost their $$$. And it was done at the actual branch and not 3rd party atm, so, you would think it was safe.

Anyway, you should keep cash in a shoebox, under the bed.

Seems like if you do banking with Wells Fargo, and post on ATOT at all, then you probably should avoid this type of transaction.

Other combinations may be better/worse. ;)

Hey, that second link was me!!! I'm editing my post in this thread, because that link serves as proof that my memory is going bad. (The amount was $140, not $160.) Although I admit in the archived thread that I could have been wrong, after some time, I decided that it was theft, because that missing $20 bill never did turn up, and like I said back then, I did count the money a few times and I was quite certain about the amount I deposited and the dollar amount entered at the time.

For this reason and others, I no longer do my banking at Wells Fargo. Last year, I closed my 10 year old checking account that my mom and I opened when I was 17. (Wells Fargo didn't exist in this area back then; They acquired Norwest Bank and my checking account around '98-99, and the excellent service I used to enjoy went downhill incredibly fast.)

Yes, I used to work parttime escorting the manager at a local store which does a lot of cash business who would depost many thousands of dollars in cash at a night ATM box every night. Easy $50 for me:)

yes but its not a smart idea..

reason being that person on teh other end can pocket it.. remember there is still a person handling the things..

more over the envolope says no cash inside..

so technically put cash deposits at teh teller.
