Can you change a flat tire?

I'm a dude and I've changed a fair number of flat tires on my cars over the years. In fact, I don't even call AAA because it would take longer for them to come change a tire for me than if I just did it myself.

Yes, I know how to change a flat tire, and I've done it.

It's something that EVERYONE who drives needs to know.

I can put a spare tire onto an axle. I cannot take a tire off the rim and put a new tire on without special equipment or some WD40 and a match. If I had access to said equipment then no problem.

My uncle still holds the patent for a tire cutting tool using a mounting machine. RIP Spec.

Where the jack goes is probably more important than replacing the wheel.

well i'd say a decent wrench is what matters. the stuff in some car trunks is a joke compared to the regular cross wrench thingy where u can apply tons of force by standing on it. sometimes those impact wrenches put on the lug nuts crazy tight.

meh, I think changing a spare is a good barometer.

Women - forget about it. Under 10%, ps - this is an awesome pickup opportunity.
Men - probably about half of them IMHO

I know my way around a car, but I'm no mechanic. That I demand to see the owners manual on where the jack points are to assist another motorist only confirms this. Sure you can generally figure it out, but I'd rather RTFM.

I had the opportunity to find out a few months ago when I had a blowout. Turns out it isn't rocket science, but I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who wouldn't be able to figure it out.

Yes, I've changed several spare tires before.

That said, last summer my wife and I were on a stretch of Florida highway that is basically nowhere-land and blew a tire at about 80mph. Could not for the life of me get enough leverage on one of the lugnuts to loosen it and ended up having to call for help. I was literally standing on the wrench and it wouldn't move. At one point I was getting so sweaty that I slid off the wrench and plowed my forehead into the car, nearly falling back onto the highway. That's when I figured I could temporarily forfeit my man card.

I've only had a flat tire once and I pay for AAA so I just called them to do it. It was cold.

So no, I don't know how to change a tire, but I'm sure I could figure it out.

You are forgiven. No corners on your man card are cut off and you keep full possession.

Never had a flat, but my car has a spare, a jack, and a manual. I can read and follow instructions.

I've changed a few tires before. Using a star wrench over the supplied one is a big help. But the supplied jacks are terrible - good way to scrape your hands up.

I'm a dude:

i have changed a flat tire
i have changed my oil

i do not anymore because i have AAA and changing a flat in a snowstorm sucks.

I call AAA.. in 30min they arrive, while i'm warm in my truck.

Since i have a truck, cant use a regular jack, so i need a high-lift jack. Easier to let AAA jack it up.
