My mom, amazingly, was good at this. I've done it many times, but still look like a Karate Kid wannabe :p

I have once or twice when i was younger. It was more fun cutting a rubber band so it was one long piece and then snapping it at flies on the wall. If you aimed right it was a sure way to get 'em.

About 3 years ago I walked outside with my BB gun. There was a dragonfly sitting on a chair about 13 - 14 ft away. I aimed and amazingly I shot it first try. I would never be able to do that again.

I can catch them pretty consistently when they take off from the ground but not very good at getting them out of the air.

I can snatch flys out of midair with my hand, however, larger flys (houseflys) are harder to catch than smaller varieties (fruitflys, nats).

It normally takes me 3-4 swats, but I normally get them <- spends wayyyyy to much time in the woods.

Air to air and air to ground works.

Better to maim than kill or capture.

However, I try to capture very few.
