Did you know that they are starting up the YUGO production line again ?
They are dropping the two door hatchback and are only going to produce the four door YUGO, it's called a WEGO.

YAY!!
<== Previous owner of a 1986 Yugo bought new in 86 (My mom bought it, I was just 16).

Actually, it was a pretty good little car once they hammered out the snapping cluch cable problem.

Hey Demon, did you know that Pontiac in the early sixties cut off half a V-8 and marketed it in thier cars as a freshly designed four cylinder ?

Man, those were real shakers, no balance shaft(s) 😉

LOL 🙂

Well, I have to get back to work now, talk to you clowns later in the day 🙂

Hehehe...had to laugh when I read this.

My neighbor has one of these. I believe it is an early 60's Pontiac Tempest. It has some ridiculously low mileage of something like 18K miles on it. Everything is original...everything. The only think that is not original is the lower radiator hose. And I will check, he may have the original battery (probably sent in to be redone). He drives it to a couple of car shows every summer and comes home with 1st place trophies. It is Mr. Peterson's baby!

I will try to get some pics next time he has it out.

Ok...seriously now....what kind of oil do you recommend? How about oil filters?

I personally use Pennzoil with Wix filters.

For a while I used Mobil1 with the Wix filters but it just killed me to let my cars go more than 3k miles between oil changes. I don't care how damn good the oil is...it just bothered me. Hell it took me forever to stop changing at 2k miles and go to 3k.

Just curious what you think......

The only sure way to figure out how long the oil drain intervals should be and what oil is best to use is to get an used oil analysis done. They are about $20 ($10 extra for a TBN-total base number, tells how much cleaning stuff is left in the oil). It lets you know exactly how much particles are in the oil, and its viscosity after so many miles. The place I get them done at is Blackstone-Labs.

As for filters, I try to go with anything but a fram filter. Napa gold filters are supposedly the same as wix filters, and supertech(walmart), stp, bosch, and mobil filters are supposedly all made by champion labs (not the spark-plug company), and these are good filters too. Motocraft filters are supposedly purolator pureone filters. Purolator makes good filters.

As for oil, I use mobil 1 when I choose to go synthetic (I can't afford amsoil, though many agree it is the best).

Duh??? I cant see or hear since my last birfday. 😀

Seriously Roger, what kind of oil and filter do you like?

I use either Bosch or STP with Mobile Syn-Blend for best of both worlds. As long as you keep to a PM schedule I feel most good brand names are good enough for the street. Ive raced my cars a lot and have usually gone over 100,000 on most of them using this philosophy.

Currenlty working on a 1972 Cutlass 442 with a 455. Hope to have it finished by next spring.

Use a non detergent, non synthetic oil for the first 2,000 miles, then use a regular non synthetic oil for the duration of it's life, do not use synthetic in older engines because the oil seals can survive the synthetic oil(s), you will end up with a oil leaker.
Only modern vehicles (1994 and later) have the modern Polyacrylic seals that are able to withstand synthetic oil(s).

As for oil filters, buy what makes you feel comfortable, yes there is a difference in quality, but everyone has there own ideas and brand loyalty 🙂
Yeah....the only vehicle I ever used the Mobil1 in was my Druango...even then I waited until it had 5k miles on it. The SS and Silverado neither have oil leakage issues and I use 10w-30 in them. Heck....the SS was my graduation present from high school in 1988 and still only has 45k miles on it.......it gets babied a lot. The Durango is my every day driver and the Silverado is my weekend/hauling vehicle. The 442 is going to be my "blow the stupid kids in their rice mobiles off the street" vehicle.

As for the filters... I've always used Wix, something I learned from my Dad I suppose, but they keep going up in price. Makes me wonder if there is anything else out there that is as good. I've heard some of the NAPA filters are made by Wix and are a lot cheaper, but I've also heard the quality varies from run to run.

Thanks for your opinion/advice.
STP, Mobil1, Bosch.

Seriously Roger, what kind of oil and filter do you like?

I must use Castrol 30 HD single viscosity because my Corvair engine tends to run a wee little on the hot side, a single viscosity motor oil tends to keep the oil pressure up when it's fully warmed up.

I have to use genuine AC oil filters, not one aftermarket oil filter manufacturer produces Corvair oil filters.
(FRAM use to, not any more..PF4)

Hey Roger my friend, here is a curve ball..... 😉

How often should I change the oil in my Chevrolet (Opel) Astra if I don't drive a lot in the city...

you call that a curve ball... ROFLMFAO 😉

Highway driving is considered "normal" conditions, therfore change it every three thousand miles if you use petroleum based motor oil.
