Instead of cluster fsck of connectors they usually come with. If not, is there any reason the ribbon can't just be severed after the last useful connector?
intel mobo's (well, the ones i dealt with) came like that.. and were short too. Useful in the cases i was working with.
I don't know off hand, but try some online cable (as in wire) store... there's one, cables and more? geez, don't remember. But they may have that. Or.. make your own
Sure, you can just clip it off. If it has the typical three connectors and you want two just keep the two with the cable twist betwixt 'em. I did that when I split, stacked, and bundled all my ribbon cables.
Just a quick warning...if you decide to snip off the extra connectors, be sure to obtain a very clean cut. Some cutters will snag or pull the small copper stands rather than cleanly snip through them. The result is an absolute mess, shorted lines everywhere. They make special snips which will sever an entire ribbon in one fell swoop, but they're rather expensive and not easy to locate. A sharp and sturdy pair of scissors will suffice...just don't use your mom's or wife's best pair. They tend to get pretty pissed when you do that.
I have some of those scissors, but mine are kinda worn. They arte nice, though.
What I use in my cable bundlin/splicing/stacking work is a good, SHARP penknife. It gives me more control, and doesn't drag wiring after it.
Would anyone be willing to pick some of these up for me. I don't have a Fry's anywhere near me. Please email me if you would consider it and we can work out a deal for your time and trouble. Below is product info:
