Can you burn 4x CD-RW's at 10X?

no you can't burn a cdrw at a faster than its max rated speed as the cdrw has info on it which sets the software to burn accordingly !

i dunno bacillus.... i have manged to burn 12X at 24x on my new TDK 24x burner....i was thinking the same as u, but its worth a shot.... if it works good if not ya aint lost much.... just my two cents

that's with cdrs but he's talking about cdrws(rewritables)!

AFAIK, you can't..Not only that but some of the 4X CDRW won't recognise the 10X media and not able to write on them at any speed.

Yes, CD-RW cannot be written faster then specified. There may be some out there that can but CD-RWs use phase changing surfaces so now instead of brning the surface the writing depends on how fast or how slow the surface can heat up and cool down and what burn will result from that. So as a result the 4X CD-RW would cool down and heat up iln some time that is too slow for faster burning and you may get just a useless CD with random bits.

I haven't been able to burn CD-RW's faster than their rated speed. I read that this was due to the fact that the burner doesn't ignore the ATIP of the Cd-RW info as it does for CD-Rs.
