well here's my computer i built back in august...

newegg:
soltek KT333 mobo: $83
retail athlon 1700: $76
kingston value ram PC2100 256mb: $63

staples, etc retail stores:
lite-on 48x burner: $40 AR
WD1200JB retail: $83 AR
antec sx830 : $59
MSI GF3 Ti500: $92
LAN card: $20
envision EN-710: $40 AR
ATI tv wonder USB: $39

total $593
that leaves about $400 for OS, and all the goodies

man it IS quite expensive if you don't have some "left-over" OS and softwares, considering i already bought stuff at pretty cheap price at that time, and all that reabtes, coupons too!

hate to say it but those dell rebate deals are really impossible to beat!

but it's always worth $1000 to have the fun of building your own computer!

Ram: Link dosent work and judgeing from the price its only 128Megs, id bump that to 256 because teh added performance boost will be amazing
Moniter: its not a bad moniter but it only does 68Hz at 1600x1200. i know my comp wont let me set moniter to 68Hz. and i can see moniter flicker at anything less then 75Hz id go with this one. same price its a better deal
Keyboard: DONT get one of thoes natural keyboards they are "teh suck" get a normal one.

everything else looks great

Couple comments on your comments:

RAM: Link worked for me, and it's to 256MB of PC2100 DDR. You haven't noticed the nosedive memory prices have taken lately, have you? hehe

Keyboard: That's entirely a judgement call on a user per user basis. I swear by natural keyboards, and really I type and game better on them than standard ones by far since it's what I got myself used to.

for $1000
peruse the fs/ft forums for some of the stuff.
dont overpay for a slightly faster cpu...go with the best bang for the buck.
if you are smart about it you can build a kick arse rig easily for that much.

Apparently you've never compared it to anything else, like the other people I know in real life who love their Lexmark inkjets and think that they're the best inkjets on earth. My 3 year old Epson Stylus Color 880 ($145 at the time, now discontinued, afaik) beats all of them. And I can only assume that new models from HP, Epson, and Cannon have only gotten better.

Aside from that, a single friggin cartridge for a Lexmark usually costs more than the whole printer! Cartridges for good printers are usually much cheaper than cartridges for Lexmark inkjets (except HP cartridges - those are usually kind of expensive).
