Can you bring liquor over seas?

purbeast0

No Lifer
I'm going to Aruba tomorrow very early and I have a handle of captain morgan that is unopened. I know there are regulations on bringing stuff into other countries (atleast figured there is).

Can I bring this bottle of liquor and just pack it in my suitcase that will be sitting in the luggage compartment on the plane? I've never been out of the country so I have no clue about this.

no im going there on vacation for 5 days, its been planned since march.

i can just buy rum there, but i went to the beach this past weekend for a night and left my fresh bottle of captain morgan in my car (we drove to the beach in my friends car) so I have a complete handle of captain morgan just sitting around.

captain morgan....captain morgan...lets say Captain Morgan a few more times shall we?? Captain Morgan

Drink it when you get back - the suff down there is cheaper. ALOT cheaper. Oh, and to answer your question - they probably won't give you much hassle about ONE bottle. If it was like 10, then they probably would confiscate it.

Dunno....I know we had no problems bring booze back from Aruba 🙂

By the way purbeast0....be sure and try Aruba's Balashi beer. It's quite tasty...wish I could get it here in the US.

There are laws that dicate how much you can transport duty free, at least that is the case with the US. I believe it is 1 or 2 liters tax free and the rest is dutable, but you can still bring it. The airlines prefer it to be unopened and can possibly take it away if it is open but sealed it should be fine.

My wife and I came back from Europe with 6 bottles of wine, 1 liter of vodka, and 750ml of limocello and had no issues with the airports, airlines, or customs and we did not even have to pay any taxes on it! (and yes, we declared all the booze, not just some of it)

cool. i'm not a big beer drinker, but i'll give it a try.

any other stuff you recommend doing there? i plan on going snorkelling, jet skiining, renting horses w/my GF and going on a tour while horseback riding that takes you to the natural pool and natural bridge for intermissions.

any specific places to snorkel or eat that you recommend?

I went snorkeling once...at the natural pool. It was incredible.

Places to eat....hrmm
Hit up the restaurant list on that Aruba House website....their reviews are pretty accurate

I would definately recommend El Gaucho though.

cool thanks. you went snorkeling at the natural pool? its that big?!?

i also picked up one of those portable books on aruba for $10 at B&N last week. i plan on reading it on the plane flight over there. i glanced over it a little bit already though.

Yes you can, but make sure its properly packed, I work in the airline industry as a rep for LH. Sometimes we do spotchecks on the baggage handlers. Let me tell you, a bag marked fragile is usually treated worse that a bag that isn't.

However, isnt it usually cheaper to buy in transit at the duty free?

Is it just me or is someone wanting to bring Captain Morgan rum to Aruba pretty weird?

lol the only reason i am asking is because i have it already. its not like i am going to go out and buy liquor tonight, and then bring that.

but if i bring what i already have, then as soon as i get to the place i can make a drink.

Yeah, no sh!t it is... Aruba has some seriously good rum on their soil.

Your Captain will taste like cheap disgusting crap when you taste what they have in Aruba.

The spiced rum they have there is smooth enough that you can drink it straight, over ice and sip it like it was iced tea. Seriously.

Aruba Customs Regulations

"Besides articles for personal use, persons over 18 are allowed to bring into Aruba one fifth of liquor and 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco."
