Can Windows 7 automatically detect boot drives if plugged in as secondary disks?

I have a 2.5" laptop drive with my media files stored on it. If my laptop failed and I removed the hard drive and plugged it into a desktop computer with Windows 7, could it detect and "see" my media files? I would like to know how Windows 7 works with secondary drives.

Yes it will work provided you have the cable for the 2.5" drive on your desktop.

Yep got the cable. Seems pretty simple, guess Windows 7 has some cool features I did not know about. Thanks!

My level of expertise in this area could be thin, but it would seem to me the only sort of problem one might encounter arises from to different boot-system Windows HDDs connected at the same time.

The problem would only occur if they have the same drive "signature." But unless one cloned an OS disk and kept the original signature on the second drive, there shouldn't be a any problem.

As for disks solely used for data, I don't think there are even any caveats, unless the data drive has a partition and format unsupported by the OS.

I didn't have any problems with 3 boot drives connected at the same time, all were recognized with only 1 booting. I either bring up a menu when booting to choose the drive I want or set the boot order in BIOS for hands free booting.
