Can we remove the topics?

Lets just make one big forum instead of all of these broken up topics. HT is a place to post "help me with my cheap hardware because I am stupid" threads, and Off Topic gets more on topic traffic than the worth while forums. Why bother with it anymore and not just make one big forum?

if that happened, everything would be OT, and there would be no forums.

I guess my point was that no one would ever get any help because everything is OT (nothing to do with hardware). Is that what you were saying?

Im tired of on-topic posts in off-topic. I miss some interresting on-topic threads because some people post them in horribly incorrect forums. If there was only one topic, you couldnt post them in the incorrect forum.

can you imagine trying to find highly technical threeads among all the "look at my girl", "look at my car", "look at this video", "whats this thing growing on me", "who is hotter" threads? It was hard enough getting decent answers to technical questions in GH. Who has the patience to weed through the OT crap to find HT stuff? It would be like one thread every 4 pages or somethign.

We still have plenty of tech questions and threads in OT, we have the same problem.

Yeh, but technically they should be located elsewhere, guess the mods are slacking in moving threads. ;)

The biggest problem is the impatient members who don't even realize there are more forums than just OT. A majority of current members are here only to talk in the OT AOL Chat room.

If I want to know something about cache architectures, I don't want to hear "I have a lot of cache in my bank", or "Get a P4, it has more cache". If someone asks one of the quantum physics questions, I doubt they are interested in replies like "I failed physics", "I dont know", etc. Replies to tech questions in GH are bad enough... let alone OT.

You're half right...Off Topic is huge...but a different community than the other forums here. If it weren't for "that AOL chatroom", you wouldn't have nearly as many posts as you do, not to mention the huge decline of subscribers. Everybody knows that OT and HD gets a huge amount of traffic..and if you're in a bind and need an answer ASAP, it's the place to post. The mods generally let the thread slide until somebody answers (or at least you can hope). If i'm in the middle of fixing a computer for a friend or diagnosing my own box, if i need an answer, why should i waste my time posting in software when it'll take a week for any posts to accumulate? I'll stick to OT and take my chances.

It's people like you who make the overall forum quality diminish. My post count has nothing to do with this as I am extremely active in almost all of the forums except HT. Threads started in OT should follow the rules just like threds in any other forum. Off Topic is not a place for you to post questions because you do not want to wait for other forums.

exactly. If people actually did follow the rules and refrained from posting tech questions in OT, then the other forums would get more traffic because they are utilized more often.
