Can we put the P4 throttling issues to rest, now?

Me. And like I said, its probably was not the CPU. Or are you trying to be a d!ck about it, by asking that last question? If I recall fkloster you were on of them paranoid suitors that refused to duplicate the tests out of spite.

<< And like I said, its probably was not the CPU... >>

Could you pull me a link to that statement Madrat?

<< If I recall fkloster you were on of them paranoid suitors that refused to duplicate the tests out of spite >>

I'm a Paranoid suitor? ...Why thank you very much Madrat! 🙂 (...I think)

<< The thermal throttling which several of these articles debate does, in fact, exist. No one can deny that... >>

Another great 'one-liner' from our friend Pabster!

Great stuff in here.

whats so bad about throttlling? seems like a good feature to me. or is this about the point that someone is saying p4 has it when it really doesnt?

Re: Thermal Throttling - as such.
Personally I think that it's a good idea. I'd rather have a system slow down than a dead CPU, esp. a P4. Also - when stress tested, thermal throttling only goes to a point. If the CPU decides that "enough is enough", it will shut down the system immediately. It's a neat idea IMHO
to simply make expensive hardware more reliable & last longer.

Personally, I hate having to replace CPU's - but then I am lazy sometimes 😀.

LOL - Inquest figured out that thermal throttling did not depend on environmental temperature. Ye gods - the genius at work there. (no sarcasm intended ... at all 😀).

Re: Replicating the matter [MadRat]

MadRat - I've known personally of a dept. in Intel that worked on trying to replicate this, and AFAIK there were quite a few people in Intel across the globe working on this one. The fact that neither they, nor I, have managed in the slightest to replicate the silly thing should say something 🙂.

Or at least, to the best of my knowledge, this has not been replicated successfully yet. Any one care to prove me wrong? 😀

fkloster -

You wanted a link. Click on your name. 😉

<<C'mon guys, put aside the AMD/Intel issues and lets get down to business if this "Hot P4" issue is real or not. No CPU should drop 30% of its power in ten minutes of use. Heck, it may not even be the processors fault.>>

"LOL - Inquest figured out that thermal throttling did not depend on environmental temperature. "

Yeah shathal, that was one of the better parts of their article. 😀

Here is quote from Tom Wilkens post:

<< I fully agree with you. Sharkey extreme and his cronies were perhaps the most biased hardware reviewers I've come across. The hd throttling was observed btw in an Atlas DGEMM calculation, it does occur, Intel acknowledges it. >>

Very interesting!

<< C'mon guys, put aside the AMD/Intel issues and lets get down to business if this "Hot P4" issue is real or not >>

Boy Madrat, you don't get it do you.... THERE IS NO "HOT P4" ISSUE. Oh wait, you still want us to recreate the tests right 😕

Hey Wingnut,

Did I ever unfairly claim the P4 had a "heat issue"?
Unknownst to fkloster there was some chatting with pm's
in the background of that other thread. I don't think
anything I said bashed the P4, nor was negative about
its performance. My house is half-Intel and half-AMD,
so its a lark to suggest I'm biased.

fkloster sure seems to think so. I wonder why
he is stuck on saying I did when it seemed pretty clear
the whole point of that other thread was about truth
not that there was a heat issue.

Hey Madrat, no hard feelins', its just that, for some reason, it felt like you were REALLY tryin' to stir the pot in that other thread whilst it was quite clear, at least to me, that the issue was a 'farse' from the very beginning.

It's true that we had several PM's about the subject. And yes, InsaneRodent ( 😉 ), you were quite neutral about the issue. You pretty much just asked if the tests and results could be duplicated.

<< That's the first I've heard of that, statix. >>

Just read through link I gave above from top to bottom don't just stop after couple posts, you can know story behind all of this.

"Since entering this field I have done my best to maintain honest, sincere reporting." --VanSmith

HAHAHAHAHAH, OMG, I can't catch my breath! Oh, the pain... sides... hurting. 😀

Ok, I'm better now.

I guess just because you read it in a forum, certainly doesn't make it true.

(NOTE: I'm not saying that it's not true... I just haven't heard that before.)
