Good deal.If it is successful, let me know.I will notify my supplier that the MSI 6191 mobo they sent me is destined for thier anal orifice. Then I will search for a new supplier.

Damn that pisses me off.AMD is culpable as well.It is there "recommended" mobo for slot A Tbirds.

Well, it's installed and running. Actual installation took about 35 minutes at 850Mhz. I've been spending the rest of the time futzing with it to get it to work on my network. Now humming along and cracking RC5.

So far, I'm not impressed. It looks like 98 with a splash of brightly colored paint, and an even bigger appetite for storage space; about an additional 100MB. But, it installed everything without additional drivers, including automatically reaching out to both the HP printers on my network after I finally got it up and running.

Looks like it's worth it for the system builder to move too, but not worth an upgrade for someone already using 98SE; unless Microsoft wants to give it away as a patch.

One note in case you missed it: I used my trusty old 98 boot disk. Matter of fact, I'd guess you could use a 95 OSR2 boot disk if you wanted to.

Tripleshot,

All my Athlon builds are done with Microstar boards. I have had practically zero problems with them

actually, it looks like w2k, without the fancy NT stuff...

you can order it from a store actually. stores usually sell it along with an HDD or mobo... it's not quite as cheap as you want it to be though.

Mday,

It looks a lot more like 98SE than it does Win2K. The only thing similar to Win2K are the icons. Other than that, it's 98SE with a facelift.

Oh, and Network Neighborhood is now "My Network Places". How cute. I think the retail version will probably come with a lolipop in each box.

Judgeing from the time of your last post, you stayed up late putting the OS in.
I got mine running now on the MSI board. Silly me. I had crappy ram. That caused fault after wierd fault trying to install the OS. Easy install(took longer)after changing the ram. I'm pleased. Now I'll go play with it.

Russ,go delete an important dll from your system file and watch what happens.

Going on week 5 of winME final release here. Everything works perfectly, its faster than 98.

Oh and I was able to keep it up for 67 hours straight, playing MP3 and RC5 with gaming on top of it, with a www and ftp server in the background. I was buring CD's while the background stuff ran too. Basically its rock solid for me. Never going back to win98.

Yeah. We've had OEM ME @ my work for about a month. It's nice. Not worth replacing my stable 98 SE, though.

Co-Worker went to Redmond, WA for a MS BS conference and they told everyone there that ME will likely NOT go retail and that the OEM is short lived in favor of a true 98/NT hybrid developed from a fresh kernel as opposed to the old Win 9X or NT kernel.

We'll see! 😀

Yep 🙂 I think this os is a keeper. No problem as long as you have a large, fast (7200+rpm) hdd this OS provides enough horsepower for the home user to keep him and the repairman happy for a long time.IMHO
