Now that we have an African-American in the highest position in the land, should we get rid of affirmative action?

preemptive "THAT'S RACIST" on the OP...

No, ofcourse AA won't go away even though it's era and need is long gone. It's actually become what it fought to change - "equality".

What are you babbling about? Everyone knows that discrimination against whites is OK.

Yeah, that will fix the income and education gaps across all races

AA didn't stop you from getting into the school of your choice, you did.

CO had amendment 46 - initiative targeted at ending race- and gender-based affirmative action programs - apparently still too close to call -No leading by 10k with 86% reporting

Affirmative action is useless when blacks don't want jobs, or want to better themselves. See inner city thugs. Those who aren't thugs usually try a bit harder in life and usually don't need affirmative action.

Regardless, I see more AA now that Obama is elected, I doubt it will decrease. See Michelle Obama's college papers.

I'm not saying AA is a good thing as it works against me, but this is a pretty weak argument.

Because 1 person makes it to the top out of a group and it suddenly reverses what AA is intended for?

I think you should stick to AA being discriminatory in general and you've got yourself a better argument.

I'm all for making it illegal for employers to ask for race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other personal information that could be used to discriminate. That is the definition of equality.

You know employment discrimination still exists right?

if they are going to have affirmative action, have it be for poor people, since that will actually help the people who actually need it.

Yes, and AA doesn't help that matter. It puts the spotlight on race or minority "status" - not skills and etc.

By the time Pelosi gets done raping business, there will be no more jobs here to discriminate with anyway. Get ready to be talking to New Delhi ALOT more often once the federal minimum is doubled.

This actually makes the most sense. There's a black middle class now, and you can't tell me the child of two black middle class parents is more "disadvantaged" that the child of poor rural whites.

What affirmative action programs do you think "inner city thugs" are taking advantage of? College education, jobs in corporate america?

AA was an issue on the ballot here in Colorado. It seems to be ~50/50 with 87% reporting so far. The "No"s are ahead by around 11,000 votes so far. I believe the measure will fail but, obviously, by very narrow margins.

...doh, didn't read the whole first page. Drakkon had it.

Fuck you dude. You have no fucking clue. I've seen more white trash in the midwest and down south without jobs then anyone else.

BTW there has been many times in my life I have had two jobs when I needed it and my friend Ritchie that lives behind me has worked 3 jobs now for the last 2 years to help his daughter go to DU, before that he held 2 jobs for years.

I haven't made it through the whole thread, but this is probably going to be the smartest post in it based on what I've seen so far.
