Can we just STOP with the Conroe/Anti-Conroe fanboi-ism on this Forum?

After AT came out with their initial and revised Conroe rollout reviews, I have to admit, I was really excited. Finally, Intel's responding to competition with a product line that delivers value for the user.

Then I started seeing the mindless flame wars on several threads here regarding Conroe.

OK, two quick points:

1) Will you AMD fanbois STOP trying to tear down what appears to be a legitimate product? It's not as if you're shareholders in AMD or anything. Your manhood is not at issue here. OK, in 6 months, Intel will have something that outruns what you have. So what? Deal with it. Moore's Law didn't just vanish, you know. I'm an AMD guy now, too, and I feel for you. But face it, you knew this was going to happen. It doesn't delegitimize your chosen platform.

2) Will you Intel fanbois STOP trying to bait AMD users now that you have something to talk about? OK! OK! Intel is coming back. Do any of you think Intel would have worked this hard to deliver something if AMD hadn't pushed them to the limit? Have you checked AMD's and Intel's stock tickers lately? And how Intel admitted AMD is creaming them in market share in desktop and server platforms and that was why they issued their earnings warning? Stop walking around with your members in the air!

Just calm down. It's not as if we don't have much more important things to worry about. It's a Microprocessor, people! Not only that, it's something YOU did not create. You have no vested interest in AMD or Intel, and they sure as sh*t don't give a flying crap about you. If you ever get a chance to look into your first child's eyes and see the life there that you helped create, you'll then see just what is REALLY important in this world.

There are some very very intelligent people who hang around these forums, especially when new generations of hardware come out like Conroe. I've seen comments from them stating that they really don't like scoping out the mindless flame wars.

We just need to moderate a little bit more effectively around here (hear that, AT guys?) and talk more about the technology and not slam each other for our platforms.

And by the way, I wrote the book on benchmarking semething like 10 years ago (The Benchmark Book, from Prentice Hall) and it looks to me like Intel's marketing people made an effort to be fair.

Can we just stop with the Conroe related topics?

As for the actual topic...i agree....people are a little too zealous when it comes to brands.... but it's good that Intel is finally doing something about AMD's lead, it'll help us AMD'ers out as well (competition = good)

It's a Microprocessor, people!

Thats like my friend coming up to me during the Superbowl after i got pissed off and saying to me "Its just a game". Its just a microprocessor in the instance where you dont care enough about it. If you dont like the discussion dont come to computer discussion forums.

As for the discussion, people should take a step back for a second and realize a few things:
[*]Conroe isn't due out until 2007. It damn well better be as fast as benchmarks show if it is a year out
[*]AM2 is around .5 years out. Dont expect it to be a revolutionary chip. It isn't MEANT to beat Intel's next generation processor.
[*]And everyone saying that "Intel is back" does not know computers. Intel was never out. They may not have had the best solution at the time, but they were certainly never out. And they certainly aren't back. Wait until the chip is released to proclaim a winner.
[*]AMD is not suddenly going to throw their cards in and say "I'm out" just because of the prospect of an incredible fast CPU that is a year out. Expect them to be working on their own processors.

Discussion is good, but seriously people, think about what you are saying before you post it!

You are a moron. Q3 is the launch date, so almost 6months away now :p There's no way AMD can pull much out on the current die size in that time (hell, few enthusiasts can get over 3ghz on air, and that wouldn't touch a 2.66ghz conroe on those scores)...

Thanks a lot dug. Because we all know that the very first way in correcting someone is to insult them -_-

Sorry i got mixed up with Vista. At any rate, AM2 is still not meant to best Conroe. AMD simply doesn't have the sheer power (Production size, employees) to keep up like that. WHen the chip comes out, AMD will PROBABLY have to give up the performance crown until they can manage to get their next gen part out. TO counter the possible drop in sales we will probably just see a lot of price cuts.

 this whole conroe stuff has pissed me off (ask you can probably guess )... So yeah, i was an ass about it, but the fact remains, it's looking pretty hawt, & even the most dedicated AMD fan would be extending himself if he said he honestly thought AMD could do much before the Q3 launch of conroe...

Me, i love my tbred-b to bits & i'm not my any stretch of the imagination going to need OR be able to afford an upgrade for 6 months...so i'm looking foward to the playing field at that stage ;)

I'm sick and tired of this 'fanboyism' too. I use an A64 now (and have used more AMD than Intel CPUs), but I'm thoroughly glad Intel has come out with a product that can compete so I can once again enjoy the stability of Intel chipsets. Finally after god knows how many years. I have not been happy with my nForce 4's stability in comparison to my old i865PE platform. (Close, but no cigar.) I just found it really funny how everybody was in such a desparate state to prove AT/Intel's benchmarks wrong (Rahul Sood, et al).

I don't think AMD will be able to put out any kind of new architecture within at least a year, but if they can squeeze more cycles out of the K8 then they might have some hope.

If you really want it to stop, its simple, just stop it. Stop posting. Accept whatever the last guy at every Conroe thread said.

Yea, and football is just a GAME but that dosent stop fanatical people running around in the opposing teams faces yelling "WOO U SUCK!!" etc

Let people support their chosen side, threads will be locked if they turn into flamewars, thats why we have mods, dont try to do their job.

I'm in no way an AMD fanboi. In six months I'll be buying a Conroe system. But I AM tired of seeing so many Conroe threads. I would say the same thing if AMD came out with something big and everyone was talking about it as well.

This is whole Conroe deal is a bit funny. I'm a speed freak! I buy the fastest CPU's available, regardless of manufacturer. If Conroe is the fastest when I do my next upgrade, you best bet that is what will be in my system. If it's an AM2, that's what will be in my system.

Besides, this X2 will be a very nice upgrade for my second computer (Currently S754 Newcastle @ 2.52 GHz). Personally, I love the competition. I really wish AMD had more market share, but I'm still going to buy the fastest available at the time of upgrade.

Go AMD! Go Intel! Keep up the great competition.

Truth is I don't really see what all the drama is about. Conroe is at least 6 months away, I read in one of the articles that Conroe has not even been taped out for production yet. And AMD continues to hedge on memory speed with AM2. Fact is nothing has changed and won't any time soon.

Merom taped out 9 months ago. It will be ready for market in 4 months.

Conroe is at MOST 6 months away. June 6th is AM2 and July/August is Conroe. That isn't really big of a difference.

Also remember it was the DDR2 that was bashed for 915/925 being slow performers(the first LGA775 chipsets), and now its gonna do something??

We should at least stop Conroe talks at a thread that is supposedly made to stop Conroe threads lol.

Intel jumped onto what's an immature technology (DDR2) with slow speeds and long latencies, AM2 will ship with DDR2 800 where we can expect to see some real performance boosts. Of course Intel switch to DDR2 800 at the same time so conroe will probalby benifit somewhat from decent RAM timings and speed too ;)

Can you atleast read the thread instead of just posting something. The release date has already been discussed on page one of this thread and it doesn't look like your suggested September through November timeframe is evenly remotely accurate.
