Can we have a Hot Deals - No Rebates forum?

I don't do rebates. I would love to be able to see the deals that don't depend on them without having to wade through all the rest. How many of you would like to see the wheat separated from the chaff?

You don't do rebates??!! Then you are not worthy of Hot Dealing goodness! BAN! 🙂

That's a pretty good idea that would help to keep the deals separated. But until they decide to start adding subforums (ie, Games, Programming, Non-Rebate HD), then I wouldn't count on it.

I like to think of myself as a guy who learns from his mistakes!

Ironically, just 5 minutes ago I was thinking it would be great to have a separate forum for hotdeals for cheap stuff (stuff that's cheap anyway)

ie. hotdeals for "hot" deals

And "here's a forum for the crap everyone likes to post ie free condoms, free astrolube, free screws with free shipping", free samples of jovan musk, pedigree calendar, 19 wall anchors for free (that normally sell for about 5 cents each... hot deal there.)

Also, wtf? $300 pyramid case is a "hot deal"?

And leave hot deals for significant savings or directly tech related.

While I doubt it warrants a separate forum, I'm with you 100% re. rebates. When I'm comparing prices, I ignore rebates entirely and go for whoever has the lowest cash register price. Rebates are a scam. Companies count on people not redeeming them, and too many companies are too eager to find ways to keep people from collecting.

I have never not gotten a rebate.
Of course, I send mine certified with signature confirmation. They can't deny not getting it.
I had one try it on a rebate but when I showed the manufacturer the proof, they made the rebate center pay it.

IMO no reason to seperate them, however posters SHOULD put AR or after rebate in the title to make it clear (I know not everybody does, but a lot of people do).

Seperating the free stuff is not a bad idea, much like they have on FW.

Exactly.

lol then you HAVE gotten a rebate....

and yes sometimes you just gotta work for it... but if you aren't expecting any work involved just buy full priced everything.

Yep yep, simple stuff...

I've prob done ~$2,500 worth of rebates this year...

I would but I doubt it'd happen

well, if dell should offer a 3.0 GHz computer FAR, I'd still prefer that it was in hot deals, rather than a free junk forum. But, at least a 1/3 of the junk in hot deals really belongs in off topic or is stuff that's super cheap anyway... perhaps some guideline for hot deals such as "a savings of at least $1 from regular retail price." Thus, a lot of the meaningless deals that clutter that forum could be moved to another.

(of course... it's always fun to order some of those things and have them shipped to "friend's" houses...)

Yes well anything you have to pay money for upfront should he kept in hot deals. However, stuff such as samples I can see moving to another place.

ive NEVER sent in a MIR ever

i don't want to have to search 2 hd forums

why not just start a new acronym - NoReb - to bet put in subjects, then just use search for it.... (can't be NR cuz too many hits)

I do most of my HD's on other web sites, so I just looked in HD, checked the first 20 or so unstickied threads, all the deals that include rebates have AR or MIR in the title, and most of the deals that do not require a rebate say so in the title.

Your suggestion would create 2 HD forums, where only one is necessary...

I'm so sorry. 🙁 You just don't know what you're missing. All the paperwork, waiting, mailings, waiting, rejections, waiting, phone calls, waiting, faxing, waiting and waiting. Why on earth would you not want to participate in that much fun?

As to a division into non-rebate and rebate forums, unfortunately there wouldn't be much to post in the non-rebate part. Mostly just the free magazine subscriptions and some DVDs.

Would be neat that if you posted something into the HD forum, there could be a check box you'd check for whether the deal involves a rebate or not. THen when Viewing the HD forum, there could be a filter (like the good, better, best filters at FW) and you chould choose Reabtes Only, No Reabtes Only, or Everything....

Just a thought.

But then you are relying on the intelligence of a single poster, which is not a good idea. 😉

That's true but if they are intelligent enough to find the website, click the post button, etc, they should be able to choose an option out of 2 radio buttons. I guess if nothing else it's a 50% chance they pick the right one as long as they have to pick something. But mods could always change it if they picked the wrong one... *shrug*

What is so freaking hard about looking at it, relizing it has a rebate, then moving on?

WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER FORUM FOR THIS.

Stop being lazy.

That's why I suggested a filter instead of a whole new forum. No one wants to have to check multiple forums for good deals, but lots of people refuse to use rebates because they are a pain in the butt for those that don't like to follow up.

I doubt anything will change but it'd make the forums neater. 🙂

What we need to do is to get people to put tags in the title when certain things apply... like make the topic as such:

[Rebate][PM][B&M]80GB Maxtor HD from Best Buy - $29!
[Online][Coupon] BFG GeForce67Bizillion from outpost.com- $3456436!!!

Until something like this happens, then it would be hard to filter out certain things.

Or just use the topic summary to give better details of actions needed. In any case, it's more an issue of people being more descriptive in the thread titles and summaries.
