Let Obama have them over for a beer.

Most serious peace talks and debates don't happen at the UN. The building and the occupants exist only to complain and suck money.

Oh..you mostly just have a problem with the building?
If it was leveled, and the land sold, what do you imagine the money would be used for?

Use it for an Obama beer fund.

The US doesn't gain anything from being a part of the organization. I hate the building for what it represents (one world government, talking not doing, waste)

The UN is pointless only to the point the previous administration wanted it that way.
Like the government. Bash the government then create the environment where government cannot function. Another goal of the previous administration.

Well, the UN wasn't pointless when it showed exactly how much TRoTW opinion mattered on us handling Iraq, by showing up how they would run a military operation. When the entire TRoTW can't even muster up 14 f*cking helicopters after waiting a rediculous amount of time to even act (a criminally long time, hence having massive time to prepare their response), we can see how awesome the UN is some things without the US propping it up to get sh1t done.

The UN does have use. However the importance and zeal some have for the UN truly laughable.

I have to ask, do you purposefully ask questions this ignorant trying to be funny or something, or you really don't know?

I know you are basically the poster child for the low information but still opinionated voter on the forum right now please at least try to stop and think before replying.

Rather than draw this out with a long sarcastic string about all the dozens of non-military related functions the UN serves in addition to the peacekeeping forces I'll just be blunt. Peacekeeping is one thing the UN does, however it only does it with the troops member nations pledge rather than an independent standing army making the UN more accurately described as a facilitator for others to act as peacekeepers. Moreover, the UN has countless other functions beyond peacekeeping, such as the above mentioned charity work, promotion of art and culture, acting as an open diplomatic forum, etc and so describing the whole of the UN as peacekeepers woefully simplistic (a common theme for you) in the same way calling New York a baseball team because they have the Yankees is simplistic.

So, is there anything else you would like to be wrong about or will you finally learn something?

I don't think the UN is pointless, but it is frustrating and the veto powers of security council members are a real problem as well, inviting stalemates regularly.

A discussion forum for the world of dubious quality is still better than no discussion forum for the world.

Yeap. The UN is kind of shitty, but it's better than having nothing.

The UN is pointless. There are many employees who want a world government and don't believe in soveriegnty. There is Russia and China always using the veto and the 60 member Arab League which pushes for blasphemy laws.

It's really disgraceful when countries with horrible records of treating women are on councils for womens rights and aren't condemned.

It's not really pointless, it's just a useless political entity that spends far too much money to get lackluster results. As long as the UN does what's in the best interests of the US, it's a decent organization.

I think with some small changes it could be much better. The biggest thing that jumps out to me is any 1 nation on the security council can veto anything. So if 4 say yes and 1 says no, then it does not pass. I think changing it to have 2 vote to veto to not pass, not just one, would go a long way.
Never happen! You anti- Israel??

so describing the whole of the UN as peacekeepers
Who did that besides YOU? (I bet anything you even had to look up that the UN did peacekeeping missions, based on your original ignorant question! You tried to backpedal it some, but it's there for everyone to see.)

It's amazing, you write this whole stupid diatribe based on YOUR OWN dumb assertion, which was based on being unable to read what I wrote simply because you misunderstood and kneejerked to it!

You're one of those people that will rant for hours not realizing you're only arguing with yourself. Colossal show of stupidity, but bravo!

Not even slightly the problem is people just expect to much from it.

Heh, yeah you're right. People expect a 'peacekeeping' force to you know, like, keep the peace or something, not rape all the local preteen girls.

But yeah, that's expecting too much.

We should have evicted them from NY years ago on top of withdrawing all support. The worlds dictators can go fund their own good ol' boys club.

"It" in the original post being the UN as a whole. You were the one who referred to "it" as a "peacekeeping force" instead as having a peacekeeping force.

I'm sorry you are too inept to respond correctly to posts you quote but you do make an excellent case by way of dire warning as to why we shouldn't cut Head Start or other early life education programs.

^LOL and he continues demonstrating his stupidity.

You actually had to make up a construct in order to change what I said into the way you wanted to read it in order to do the only thing you're capable of, which is make stupid snipes.

Did you have a fun time trying to turn what I said into the idiotic way you chose to read it? Did you consider that time well spent?

Like I said, you probably didn't even know the UN conducted peacekeeping missions, let alone that it routinely is charged with mass-rape of minors when it does, so you had to backpedal into some truly ridiculous nonsense.

Your post was always stupid, all I had to do was read it. Anyone can read back to where you quoted Paul98 and tell his post was in reply to the question in the thread title "Can we all finally agree the U.N. is pointless?" Note the question is not "are UN Peacekeepers pointless?"

The level of verbal acrobatics you are engaged in to avoid admitting a mistake is quite impressive given your demonstrably limited grasp of the English language.

Keep digging yourself deeper in a hole! This is too funny!

By your own *incredibly stupid* 'logic', the subject of the thread would have to be "is the UN World Food Program pointless" in order for your own post to have been on subject.

Stop twisting, you didn't know the UN did peacekeeping missions (let alone my point in bringing it up) and constructed a completely idiotic excuse when busted on it.

Stop twisting, you didn't know the UN did peacekeeping missions (let alone my point in bring it up) and constructed a completely idiotic excuse when busted on it.

On the contrary, my initial post also acknowledged parts of the UN beyond the food aid, in particular I acknowledged the General Assembly and Security Council, hence your analogy, like everything you post, is inaccurate.

Your point in bringing it up, and I use point loosely, was that UN Peacekeepers have done some horrible things. My point in replying to you was that the Peacekeepers, first of all, aren't all the UN does, and second, are composed of the armed forces of member nations rather than the UN proper anyway. The UN is a massive, complex, and multifaceted organization and your reduction of it to just the actions of a few peacekeepers is unfair and dishonest. As I initially pointed out, there are things about the UN that don't work but there are also great goods that the UN does such as with the Food Programme, UNESCO, and WHO and your dismissing all that because of the actions of some peacekeepers is stupid.

Look, your posts are there for anyone to read, your insults transparent attempts to avoid people looking more closely at your asinine statements, and your accusations fool nobody. Tantrums like yours never gained anyone credibility so why don't you take a step back, take a couple English classes, and own up to your mistakes instead of lashing out at the people who point them out? This could be the very first learning experience of your entire life, use it wisely.
