Can universal remote controls be programmed to control stereos?

I have an AIWA stereo and I can't seem to find codes to get it to function with a universal remote.

Depends on what IR frequency the stereo remote uses. (I'm assuming you can but you just need the code, which you don't have )

I had a floor fan I got from Staples on clearance that had a remote. Programmed it into my Sony universal remote. Amazed my friends.

It's a remote that also has an IR receiver & can repeat a pattern that is sent to it (by the devices' original remote).

Ahh, nice Do they make any DVD player remotes like that? (Both my XBox and Panasonic R32 remotes are kinda flimsy)
