Can u overclock a 2500 barton on a SN41G2

Ok, just bought one from a friend.

SN41G2
Barton 2500 unlocked.
1 gig of corsair xms
9800 pro 256 mb

Question is: can i overclock it a little bit? like get to 2.0-2.2 ghz? nothing major. or would i rather buy a different cpu instead?

That's what you use to overclock since the cpu clock is locked. Default Barton FSB is 166....try 180 and then run some stability tests such as the Prime95 torture test. If it passes for a few hours raise the FSB to 185, etc.

Possibly. You might have to relax the timings a bit (cas latencies).

How do you do that? options are like optimal, aggressive, turbo, expert.

Is there an expert or user define option? Otherwise try optimal a.k.a. slowest.

Hmm, I don't think you can adjust the multiplier on that board without a hacked bios (not even sure if that exists for that board) or a hard mod. By hard mod I mean some wire trick I've heard of but never tried. You can read up on it here: www.sfftech.com . Until you can figure out how to change the multiplier, you can still change the fsb. Like the other guys said, just try adjusting the fsb slowly but start with as tight of timings as you can have while staying stable. Once you hit a wall where your computer isn't stable anymore, loosen the timings but using a "user define" or "expert" setting in your bios. Adjust the timings to something like 2.5-3-2-6 if you can. If you have to, you can go all the way to 3-4-4-8, but that's a pretty big performance hit I think . What pc2700 module/s do you have?

I had mine running 183fsb for 2.0ghz, you can go higher but heat starts to become an issue.

i have it right now at 185. not sure if i want to go up. not really trying to OC the cpu that much. just want to get to 2.0 ghz. Ram settings was set to optimal and sync. Using pc2700 corsair xms, with the silver color heatsink ( not sure if thats how u call it ). i ran prime for like overnight and no errors. havent tried to play games yet. thanks for all the input guys. one more question though, how do i know if its not affecting my agp/pci? i do not see a lock agp/pci on the bios screen.
