Can typical PSU run on 220v?

I want to run some machines in a location where all the power is on 220V circuits. Why typical PSU's run on that voltage?

For example, this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

lists input voltage as 100V - 240V. This means I could run it at this particular location right? And to do that would I simply flip the switch at the back of the PSU? (PC I'm looking at next to my desk right now has a switch with options "115" and "230").

This power supply does not have a switch on it. It has a Universal AC input 90~264V and automatically scans and detects the correct voltage. So yes, change the plug and go for it.

Thanks.

What about the PSU's that do have the switch? The PSU I'm holding now at has a slider on it that allows 2 settings. "115" and "230". Is that to tell it the input voltage? So do newer ones just skip having this switch in favor of auto detecting the voltage?

Non-PFC units (typically older and current cheaper units) will have that switch. 115 is smack in the middle of the typical 110-120V range. Same with 230, it is smack in the middle of the 220-240V range.

So yes, on that PSU, where you have 220V, you set the switch to the "230V" setting. Basically, you're setting it to the closest matching. Just whatever you do, do NOT plug a PSU with a switch set to 115V into a 220V circuit unless you want it to blow up 😱

:hmm: Looks at SparkyJJO's user name...()🙂

Some folks know how to take all the fun out of things...Go ahead...do it...set the PSU for 115 and plug it into 240...let the magic smoke escape!!:whiste::twisted:
