Can this RAM be used on a Epox 8KHa+?

Because now I can roll the 4200 Ram into a faster system when I upgrade the mobo a year or so from now... And there's not a whole lot of savings with PC2100... Where would I get it used anyway?

Can "modern" DDR2 PC3200 RAM be used just fine on an older mobo that used DDR PC2100?

IIRC DDR2 RAM has a different PIN configuration than DDR RAM, despite being the same "size," so the answer is no. Anyone is welcomed to correct me.

Hi, In general, any chip of the same specs except for speed was born equal and maybe in the same run. The speed is added after a test to see how fast they will run reliably. The memory will just only run as fast as the Mother board can run it. Luck, Jim
 
So... Does anyone know the highest DDR (not DDR2) memory standard that was made past PC2100?

This will give me some more buying options...

Incidentally, "new" PC2100 is at least the price of "new" PC3200, etc... I guess because it's in shorter supply...???

Any speed DDR will work, but it will only run at PC 2100 speeds. I would look for some used RAM, but if you do purchase new, just get PC 3200.
 
Zim has it correct. DDR2 and DDR are *NOT* compatible. You cannot put DDR into a DDR2 motherboard, and you cannot put DDR2 into a DDR motherboard. For one thing, the pin counts are completely different: DDR has 184, DDR2 has 240.

If you're going to be using the socketA Epox, you should just pick up some PC2100 off FS/FT, ebay, etc.

Edit: Given that PC2100 isn't much in demand anymore, it might be cheaper to buy PC2700 or PC3200. This is fine--the faster RAM will just run at slwoer speeds (I don't believe this Epox can run the FSB & RAM at different frequencies).
