Please confirm if this mobo can be used for a Server as well as a Desktop PC:

Intel BOXD975XBX2KR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

I like it for desktop. Also be let me know of any pros or cons.

thanks in advance

Any board with an ethernet port can work as a server. What is the CPU you plan to mate with? Bad Axe 2 is a LGA775 board and it supports the first generation Core 2 CPUs including Xeon variants. It's got an excellent network throughput (gigabit of course) so it meets the first criterion. One drawback I can think of is that the 975X supports only 4 SATA disks natively, so that could be a limiting factor. It does have 4 more SATA ports rooted in Marvell controller, though. (making up total 8 ports) The board is one of my favorites among all Intel boards that I've tried. Very very stable.

I want to use it with Q6600. You said it is the "first Generation" core 2, is there a second and what is the model so I can look at it. I am not going to overclock and the 4 sata drives are fine for me. I plan on building 2 machines, desktop and Server with core 2 duo
quad core. I want a good fast machine that is stable to run anytime (games sometime).

I would appreciate any recommendations. thanks in advance.

This mobo is out of stock at NEWEGG. I know it is first generation, should I wait for it in stock to purchase or wait for second generation or purchase another board?

any ideas/suggestion will greatly appreciated.

thanks
