Can this be real or a hoax -- supposed to limit system performance by 60%

If this is real, it would seem that its more widely known... I havn't seen anything on these forums about it and I'm concerned as my new system specs don't bode well in light of this information. What's the truth?

There was a thread about this a little while ago, do a search to read about it.

Summarising: there are plenty of people who have that chipset and not seeing the performance hit. Myself, i have a via chipset and a geforce3 ti200, and get 7000 in 3DMark2001. I dont think thats indicative of a 60% performance hit.

Why would you use Win 2k/XP drivers with a Win 98/ME system anyway? They have their own set of Det. drivers, use those and you should have no problems.
Well, I'm using Win2k so I should have no problems at all.:) Maybe it's time for others to switch over to 2k/XP, too.;) Anyway, just for reference I get over 9100 in the default 3dmark2k1 benchmark, so I guess that means I have no performance problems.:)

Yeah, been there, done that... It's obvious from the responses in the thread that this is a confusing issue... And, since the 8kha+ Epox board, Win 98, GF3, and Det 4 is probably one of the more popular setups during the past months, it seems like this would be a "big deal" with many wanting it fixed... After all I've read, I still am left wondering if there is a legitimate problem or not...

"Hey Smbu how come nothing but game benches are on your 2001 tests?"

Because I didn't bother with the rest of the theoretical tests. Since this test was just an increase in cpu speed and I didn't change the video card speed. Here is one of mine that has all of tests done, 9034, but with the cpu running at a slower speed.
