Can you install Windows ME to a new pc thats has no operating system,with the recovery cd?...This is all that came with my older Compaq......Thanks....🙂

I am not positive but I do not think so. The recovery disks are for a very specific system configuration (ie. your compaq computer config.).
 
I was afraid of that...🙂.........May just look into a test version of Linux,if I can find one......Thanks again..🙂

no need for a test version, in case you havent heard, linux is free.

If you install the OS from the recovery disks, and then boot won't it see the new computer as "new hardware" and install the proper drivers? I've never installed from a recover disk (what i'm trying to say is, I don't know what the install/setup from the recovery disks is like or if it looks for some specific hardware id), but I think it might work... you basically have nothing to loose, why not try it. 😉
