Here's one that has messed with people for years:

I was coaching my now wife's sorority softball team. We were down by one run in the last inning. One out with girls on first and third.

Batter hits a fly ball to center. Girl on third takes off BEFORE the catch. The outfielder catches the ball for out number 2. The outfielder throws home to try to get the girl from third, but the runner beats the throw, tying the game.

The girl on first then tags up and tries for second, where she is thrown out by the catcher for out number 3.

The other team then throws to third and tags the bag, claiming the runner left early.

I argue with the ump that there is already 3 outs, so they cannot get a 4th out and the run should count. I convinced the ump and we ended up winning the game in extra innings.

(Of course, my argument was incorrect, the third base runner should have been called out and the run should not have counted. ;) )

Ump is a moron. Runner from third should be instantly out and the run shouldnt count.

If by "instantly" you mean "upon the challenge", then, yes.

It was an intramural league, so the ump was just another college student. In fairness, I had her head spinning with my argument and she probably just agreed with me to shut me up.

How about this? Can a runner be so fast as to over take another. Say someone is on first and the batter hits the ball and bolts... just as the first runner rounds 2nd, the batter has already caught up and runs past him and tags 3 then home for a infield home run leaving the first runner at third. They never touched bases at the same time.

The passing runner is out.

ok harder one

what if you had a pitcher who was pitching a perfect game and in the 5th inning, got into an argument with the umpire for whatever reason and gets ejected, then the replacement pitcher comes in and finishes the perfect game. Is it still a perfect game since no runner got on base but who gets credited?

That would be a "combined perfect game". Yes, still a perfect game but 2 players get credit.

That link should tell you how many there were in history. I'm not sure myself.

Is it considered a perfect game if on the 27th batter, the pitcher induces a ground out and the fielder throws him out at first but Jim Joyce blows the fu*king call?

Not with this idiot commissioner.

I swear, we must be living in the time of the worst MLB commissioner of all time.
